Vincent Langer ist Formula Windsurfing Weltmeister 2017
14 Rennen an fünf Veranstaltungstagen sind das Ergebnis der diesjährigen Formula Windsurfing Weltmeisterschaften 2017, die im Rahmen des Multivan Summer Openings auf Sylt ausgetragen wurden. Dabei ging es so spannend zu wie noch nie. Neun unterschiedliche Teilnehmer konnten sich Laufsiege sichern und bis zum letzten Tag hatte das Führungs-Quartett um Vincent Langer (GER-1), Steve Allen (AUS-0), Sebastian Kördel (GER-220) und Alexandre Cousin (FRA-752) noch alle Chancen den Titel zu holen. Schlussendlich konnte sich Vincent Langer (GER-1) aus Kiel gegen die Konkurrenz durchsetzen und holte sich seinen ersten Formula Weltmeistertitel. Vize-Weltmeister im Formula Windsurfing wurde Steve Allen (AUS-0) aus Australien vor dem Franzosen Alexandre Cousin (FRA-752) auf dem dritten Platz.
Spannung pur beherrschte den letzten Veranstaltungstag auf Sylt. Bei optimalen Bedingungen wurden die letzten vier Rennen der Veranstaltung ausgefahren. Erst in der letzten Wettfahrt fiel die Entscheidung, wer Formula Windsurfing Weltmeister 2017 werden würde. Dabei startete der Tag besonders für Gunnar Asmussen (GER-2) optimal. Der Flensburger lag bis dahin auf dem fünften Platz in der Gesamtwertung. Er konnte die ersten beiden Racings des Finaltages klar für sich entscheiden und ließ die Topfavoriten hinter sich. Allerdings hatte er aufgrund des zu großen Punkteabstands keine Chancen mehr, in den Titelkampf einzusteigen. Auch Sebastian Kördel, der mit einem siebten Platz im dritten Racing sein bestes Ergebnis des Tages einfuhr, musste die Konkurrenten im Titelkampf ziehen lassen. Er kam mit den Starkwindbedingungen nicht so gut zurecht.
Im Verlauf des Finaltages schied auch Alexandre Cousin aus dem Titelkampf aus. So kam es im letzten Rennen zum alles entscheidenden Duell zwischen Vincent Langer und Steve Allen. Steve Allen hätte einen Sieg mit mindestens zwei Plätzen Abstand für den Titelgewinn gebraucht. Mit Casper Boumann (NED-52) als Sieger des letzten Rennens war der Weg für Vincent Langer frei. Dass er in diesem Rennen nur als Sechster ins Ziel kam, spielte keine Rolle mehr.
Vincent Langer ist voller Freude über seinen Sieg: „Gestern war ich nach meinem Materialbruch noch extrem traurig, aber das konnte ich gut hinter mir lassen. Heute war ich bereits um 09:00 Uhr auf dem Wasser, um alles optimal einzustellen. Dann lief es super. Nun bin ich überglücklich über meinen ersten Formula Windsurfing Weltmeistertitel.“
Der Formula Windsurfing Vize-Weltmeister Steve Allen freut sich über Platz zwei: „Gratulation an Vincent Langer. Er ist sehr konstant und clever gefahren und der Zweikampf mit ihm war großartig. Persönlich bin ich mit meinem Ergebnis zwar zufrieden, aber es wäre noch mehr drin gewesen. Ich habe viele kleine Fehler gemacht, die mich den Titel gekostet haben.“
Auch der Drittplatzierte Alexandre Cousin (FRA-752) ist glücklich mit seinem Platz auf dem Podium: „Die Top-3 zu erreichen ist großartig für mich. Zum Titel hat es zwar nicht gereicht, aber wir hatten tolle Wettkämpfe auf dem Wasser. Der ganze Event hier war super organisiert und es hat viel Spaß gemacht. Auch das Interesse der Zuschauer ist immer wieder überragend. Sylt ist einer der besten Orte für solch einen Wettkampf.“
Auch die Jugendlichen zeigten in dem großen Teilnehmerfeld auf Sylt eine starke Leistung. In der Kategorie Youth (U-20) siegte Julien Pockrandt (GER-18) vor Michele Antoine Becker (GER-277) und Martins Dzirnieks (LAT-188). In der Kategorie Grandmaster (Ü-45) siegte Ulf Sjöstedt (SWE-8) vor Arvydas Moliusis (LTU-789) und Bernd Timme (GER-1961). Die Plätze eins bis drei in der Altersklasse Ü-35 (Master) belegten Steve Allen, Gunnar Asmussen und Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (ARG-3).
Mit insgesamt über 120.000 Besuchern bei den Formula Windsurfing Weltmeisterschaften und den Kitesurf Masters war das Multivan Summer Opening 2017 auch abseits der Wettkämpfe auf dem Wasser ein voller Erfolg. Das reichhaltige Rahmenprogramm, die abendlichen Live-Bands und DJs sorgten für hochklassige Unterhaltung auf der Promenade. Auch im nächsten Jahr wird das Multivan Summer Opening von Himmelfahrt bis Pfingsten den Sommer auf Sylt einläuten.

Florian Jung gewinnt Waveriding
Der zweite Veranstaltungstag bei den Formula Windsurfing Weltmeisterschaften 2017 im Rahmen des Multivan Summer Opening Sylt begann mit stürmischem Wind und hohen Wellen, die jedes Windsurferherz höher schlagen lassen. Die Brandung machte es aber unmöglich Boote aufs Wasser zu bringen. So konnten keine Wettkämpfe innerhalb der Formula Windsurfing Weltmeisterschaften gestartet werden. Die perfekte Möglichkeit für die Waverider zum Zuge zu kommen.
Viele Wave-Teilnehmer reisten erst in den frühen Morgenstunden auf Sylt an. Doch das frühe Aufstehen sollte sich lohnen. Bei Windgeschwindigkeiten zwischen 20 und 25 Knoten und einer Wellenhöhe von bis zu drei Metern kämpften 25 Teilnehmer in dem eintägigen Waveevent um den Sieg. Die deutsche Wave-Elite um die Favoriten Florian Jung (GER-21), Leon Jamaer (GER-208) und Max Droege (GER-3) war extra nach Sylt angereist.
In mehreren Vorrundenläufen traten die Teilnehmer in Mann-gegen-Mann Ausscheidungen gegeneinander an, um die jeweils nächste Runde zu erreichen. Neben den genannten Favoriten, die in spannenden Heats eine Kür an Sprüngen und Wellenritten zeigten und nahezu mühelos das Halbfinale erreichten, erwischte auch Dennis Müller (GER-89) einen guten Tag und konnte sich bis unter die besten vier Teilnehmer kämpfen. Im Halbfinale unterlag er jedoch Leon Jamaer, der mit einer guten Performance ins Finale einzog. Im zweiten Halbfinale setzte sich Florian Jung gegen Max Droege durch, dem damit nur noch der Kampf um Platz drei blieb.
In einem spannenden und sehr knappen Finale hatte dann Florian Jung die Nase vorn und freute sich riesig über seinen Sieg im Waveriding: „Die Bedingungen heute waren mit dem auflandigen Wind nicht einfach, umso mehr freue ich mich, dass ich Leon heute schlagen konnte.“ Aber auch Leon Jamaer war mit Platz zwei zufrieden. Im „kleinen“ Finale um Platz drei setzte sich Max Droege gegen Dennis Müller durch und verwies diesen auf Platz vier.
Aufgrund der Windbedingungen und der hohen Wellen mussten die Teilnehmer der Formula Windsurfing Weltmeisterschaft am heutigen Tag pausieren. Sie konnten jedoch gestern Abend kurz vor Sonnenuntergang noch zwei Rennen fahren. Hier hatte der Australier Steve Allen (AUS-0) die Nase vorn und sicherte sich die Führung in der vorläufigen Gesamtwertung. Platz zwei ging an Vincent Langer (GER-1) aus Kiel vor Alexandre Cousin (FRA-752) aus Frankreich. Morgen sieht die Windvorhersage erneut sehr vielversprechend aus, so dass mit weiteren spannenden Rennen im Kampf um den Weltmeistertitel im Formula Windsurfing zu rechnen ist.

Albeau gewinnt den Event und übernimmt die Führung im World Cup.
Der letzte Tag des 2017 Catalunya PWA World Cups war erneut windig, die Thermik setzte schon früh ein und bot ausgezeichnete Rennbedingungen. Am Ende des Tages wurden insgesammt 8 Eliminations im Slalom gefahren, Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde) dominierte, erzreichte einen klaren Sieg über seinen stärksten Gegner, Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails / Chopper Fins).
Antoine Albeau was in imperious form yesterday, which put him in a commanding position heading into the final day - and even before the completion of the 6th race,AA basically had the event victory sewn up as only two other sailors from top 10 of the overnight rankings qualified for the winners’ final - (Ross Williams (Tabou / GA Sails / Mystic / Shamal Windsurfing Sunglasses) and Andrea Cucchi (Starboard / Point-7) - and from there he asserted his dominance even more as he claimed a 3rd bullet in Elimination 6, before placing second in Race 7 to build an unassailable lead. Albeau - who is now 44-years-old - shows no signs of slowing down as he schooled his younger rivals on how to dominate an event. In his interview, Albeau, sounded extremely confident and it would be no surprise to see him add to his 23-world-titles come the and of the season after this performance.
Pierre Mortefon suffered a surprising second round exit in Elimination 6, which saw the vice-world champion drop from 3rd to 6th on the final day, but the 27-year-old responded in perfect fashion by going on to win the 7th Race, which slingshotted the Frenchman back into second place, which is ultimately where Mortefon finishes the event - he was leading the winners final in the 8th race as well, but the wind shut down before it could be completed and his result wouldn’t have changed.
Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Point-7 / Shamal Sunglasses) looked to be in a jubilant mood when it was revealed that he had snatched the final place on the podium from the grasp of Pascal Toselli (99NoveNove / LoftSails / Chopper Fins) - after enduring a somewhat difficult week. The reigning world champion has battled through this week to still earn a creditable 3rd place, but he doesn't look to have that same blistering pace which he possessed last year. However, the Italian now has 7 weeks before Fuerteventura in which to try and figure things out and he’s still prominently placed after winning one elimination.
Pascal Toselli will be devastated to have missed out on the podium - having been in the top 3 until the final race. The Frenchman has enjoyed an couple of days racing, but ultimately Toselli misses out on the podium by an agonising point.
Last year’s world No.3 - Ross Williams - ends the third event of the year in a solid 5th place with the Brit showing his usual consistency, which saw him finish outside the top 10 on just two occasions out of the 8 races completed.
Arnon Dagan (RRD / NeilPryde) - won the opening elimination in convincing fashion, but the Israeli competes the week in 6th place. Dagan was unlucky yesterday that a broken mast saw him leave to settle for a 30.5 in Elimination 4 - and although the result was discarded you have to feel that it may have affected his mentality heading into the final day.
Tristan Algret (Starboard / Severne / Mystic / Chopper Fins) rises one place to 7th from the overnight ranking, while Andrea Cucchi (Starboard / Point-7) falls two places to 8th - after a couple of premature stats on the final day.
Antoine Questel (Starboard / S2Maui) discards one of this results from today to complete the top 10.
Movers and Shakers
Marco Lang (Fanatic / NorthSails) completed a superb comeback on the final day to deservedly earn his place in the overall top 10. The Austria suffered a mixture his fair share of bad luck, but battled through to finish in the top 10 - with a 10th place being his worst result in the last 4 races completed - with the 31-year-olds best effort coming in the opening race of the day when he finished with a fantastic 3rd place.
Taty Frans (Starboards / GA Sails / Mystic) escapes with a 12th place from Costa Brava after a disastrous couple of elimination's, but the Bonairean would’ve been almost guaranteed a place in the top 10 had he not been too busy smiling at the camera, when leading the quarterfinal of Elimination 6, which saw him catapult over the handlebars.
Having finished in the top 10 in a single elimination for the first time ever - Amado Vrieswijk (JP / Severne) - went a few places better today as he qualified for his maiden winners’ final in which he finished 7th - which sees the Bonairean finish 13th overall in Costa Brava
At 6:30pm the closing ceremony as the winners’ were deservedly presented with third trophies in front of the crowd.

Wavealarm beim Multivan Summer Opening auf Sylt!
Aktuell läuft auf Sylt das Multivan Summer Opening. Ab Montag übernehmen dort die Windsurfer mit den Formula Windsurfing Weltmeisterschaften und Slalom und Wave im Rahmen des Multivan Windsurf Cups. Für Mittwoch, 31. Mai versprechen die Prognosen Windgeschwindigkeiten von über 30 Knoten aus westlichen Richtungen. Dies bietet eine gute Chance für die Disziplin Wave.
Deshalb wird hiermit Wavealarm gegeben. Alle Waver werden zum Multivan Windsurf Cup nach Sylt eingeladen. Die Einschreibung (nur für die Disziplin Wave!!!) ist am Mittwochmorgen 7:30 - 8:30 Uhr im Race-Office vor Ort möglich. Die Meldegebühr beträgt ausnahmsweise €30,-, eine Nachmeldegebühr fällt (für reine Waver!) NICHT an. Die Siegerehrung der Disziplin Wave findet am selben Tag statt.

Albeau dominiert den Tag fünf!
Der vorletzte Tag des Catalunya PWA World Cups lieferte gute Rennbedingungen mit Wind zwischen 10-20 Knoten über den ganzen Nachmittag. Am Ende eines actiongeladenen Tages wurden weitere 4 Eliminierungen abgeschlossen und es gab viele aufregende Rennen mit riskanten Überholmanövern, Crashs, Comebacks und engen Zieleinläufen - Slalom von seiner besten Seite.
Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde) war ohne Zweifel der herausragende Racer des Tages, der 23-fache Weltmeister lieferte eine hervorragende Leistung, gewann zwei Eliminations, zwei weitere beendete er als Zweiter bzw. Fünfter. Verdient und mit einigem Vorsprung führt er die Veranstaltungsrangliste an. Albeau ist jetzt in einer extrem starken Position vor dem letzten Tag des Events - wer ihn noch stoppen will, hat es jedenfalls sehr schwer. Slalom - Sailor of the Day Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde) was without doubt the standout sailor of the day - as he so often is - the 23-time world champion produced a scintillating display to claim two, firsts, a second and a fifth to cap an exceptional day which deservedly sends him into a commanding lead at the top of the event rankings with one day to go. Albeau’s never say die attitude was never more prevalent than in Elimination 3 when facing a semifinal exit, but on the final reach Bruno Martini (RRD / Point-7) succumbed to having Albeau breathing down his neck and the Frenchman snatched the last place in the winners’ final, which he duly went on to win. AA is now in an extremely strong position heading into the final day and it’s difficult to see anyone stopping him from here. Fellow countryman - Pascal Toselli (99NoveNove / LoftSails / Chopper Fins) - rises one place into second after enjoying a fine day - with the only blip coming in the third race when he was eliminated in the semifinals. In the race prior, Toselli secured the opening bullet of the day in impressive fashion and he immediately discards the 14th place finish from Elimination 3 after qualifying for every other winners’ final. Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails / Chopper Fins) completes an all French top 3 heading into the final day and the reigning vice-world champion sailed consistently for the majority of the day - recording results of 2nd, 3rd and 4th - with the only blemish coming in race 5 when he suffered a surprise quarterfinal exit, which he discards. Aside from that the 27-year-old hasn’t finished worse than 6th and remains on course for the podium. Arnon Dagan (RRD / NeilPryde) led the event rankings at the start of the day, but slips to 4th at the end of today’s proceedings. The Israeli was firmly in contention in the last race as he entered the first gybe in second, but was then covered on the exit, meaning he had to settle for 6th place. Reigning world champion - Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Point-7 / Shamal Windsurfing Sunglasses) - has recorded a mixed bag of results so far this week with the Italian only qualifying for two winners’ finals out of the five races completed. However, the 27-year-old is still in 5th place after he dug deep to secure a clinical victory in the final race of the day. Iachino will be hoping that it is possible to complete at least a further two eliminations tomorrow, which would bring the second discard into play and provide him with the opportunity to be one of the biggest movers of the day. Andrea Cucchi (Starboard / Point-7) currently occupies 6th place, but the Italian was visibly annoyed at himself in race five when he inexplicably dropped his third gybe in the semifinals when in the qualifying positions. Ross Williams (Tabou / GA Sails / Mystic / Shamal Windsurfing Sunglasses) produced a couple of miraculous comebacks today to earn the worthy title as the comeback King. The Brit flirted with danger in two successive heats in the opening race of the day - quarters and semifinals - and looked to be down and out, but he somehow reeled in his rivals to advance into the winners’ final. The pick of the bunch of his manoeuvres came in the quarterfinals of Race 2 when he jumped from 7th to 4th with a text-book gybe at the last to progress. The 37-year-old is currently in 7th place heading into the final day, but things could’ve been even better had he not suffered a broken boom. Tristan Algret (Starboard / Severne / Mystic / Chopper Fins) made a flying start to the day as he chased home Pascal Toselli in the opening race to claim second place, before finishing 7th in the next. Unfortunately after this his day faded somewhat with quarter and semifinal exits, but the 23-year-old remains on course for the top 10 - 8th at the moment. After a disappointing quarterfinal exit in the opening race of the week - Antoine Questel (Starboard / S2Maui) has produced an excellent recovery, which sees the 32-year-old rise to 9th. Questel’s best result came in the third elimination - 5th - and has then produced the consistency needed to challenge for the top 10 with results of 10th, 11th and 12th. Sebastian Kördel (Starboard / GA Sails) may have suffered disappointing quarterfinal exits in the opening two races, but since then the German has recovered brilliantly to move into the final place in the top 10. The 26-year-old had looked quick in both South Korea and Japan and things finally clicked into place as he recorded a 4th and two 9th’s in the last 3 eliminations today. Kördel will be another sailor hoping for a further two eliminations as he could potentially then discard and 18.5, which could then open up the possibility of a top 5 finish. Elsewhere, Ingmar Daldorf (Tabou / GA Sails) showed he has the speed and the talent to compete with the best names in the business after recording a superb second place Elimination 4. If the flying Dutchman can find the recipe to consistently find that form then he could be one to watch for the remainder of the season. Gabriele Browne (Goya Windsurfing / Point-7) is in his first year back on the PWA World Tour and he’s enjoying a fine event - currently ranked 11th. The Brazilian qualified for the first winners’ final of the day to take home 5th place, while making the semifinals on a further two occasions, but has just a one-point advantage over Finian Maynard (99NoveNove / Gun Sails) - who is very much still in the hunt for successive top 10 finishes. Last year’s world No.6 - Taty Frans (Starboard / GA Sails / Mystic) - suffered a couple of disastrous eliminations to start the event, with a snapped harness line costing him dearly in the second elimination, but since then he has firmly set himself on the road to recovery with 4th, 8th and 12th place finishes in the last 3 races, which sees him rise to 13th. Frans is another sailor, who could massively benefit from the second discard and a top 10 finish is very much on the cards if the wind shows up again tomorrow. Fellow Bonairean - Amado Vrieswijk (JP / Severne) - who is the freestyle vice-world champion - also enjoyed a fine day as he qualified for three semifinals to show he also possesses some serious skills on the race course. The 21-year-old recorded his first top 10 in a single race - Race 3. After his best ever result in the last event - Jordy Vonk (Fanatic / NorthSails) - will be disappointed to find himself down in 18th place, but Julien Quentel (Patrik / Avanti) may be the most disappointed man of all. The 30-year-old won the event in Japan, but finds himself in a lowly 32nd place after becoming involved in a number of tussles and collisions in the five races thus far and realistically there is no-way back for the man from Saint Maarten here in Costa Brava - and he will just have to erase this event from his memory. The forecast looks excellent for tomorrow with clear skies and moderate southeasterly winds being predicted, which should hopefully provide a Super Sunday finale to the 2017 Catalunya PWA World Cup. The sailors will meet again at 10:30am tomorrow morning for the skippers’ meeting with the action commencing from 11am (GMT+2) onwards. Slalom - Sailor of the Day Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde) was without doubt the standout sailor of the day - as he so often is - the 23-time world champion produced a scintillating display to claim two, firsts, a second and a fifth to cap an exceptional day which deservedly sends him into a commanding lead at the top of the event rankings with one day to go. Albeau’s never say die attitude was never more prevalent than in Elimination 3 when facing a semifinal exit, but on the final reach Bruno Martini (RRD / Point-7) succumbed to having Albeau breathing down his neck and the Frenchman snatched the last place in the winners’ final, which he duly went on to win. AA is now in an extremely strong position heading into the final day and it’s difficult to see anyone stopping him from here. Fellow countryman - Pascal Toselli (99NoveNove / LoftSails / Chopper Fins) - rises one place into second after enjoying a fine day - with the only blip coming in the third race when he was eliminated in the semifinals. In the race prior, Toselli secured the opening bullet of the day in impressive fashion and he immediately discards the 14th place finish from Elimination 3 after qualifying for every other winners’ final. Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails / Chopper Fins) completes an all French top 3 heading into the final day and the reigning vice-world champion sailed consistently for the majority of the day - recording results of 2nd, 3rd and 4th - with the only blemish coming in race 5 when he suffered a surprise quarterfinal exit, which he discards. Aside from that the 27-year-old hasn’t finished worse than 6th and remains on course for the podium. Arnon Dagan (RRD / NeilPryde) led the event rankings at the start of the day, but slips to 4th at the end of today’s proceedings. The Israeli was firmly in contention in the last race as he entered the first gybe in second, but was then covered on the exit, meaning he had to settle for 6th place. Reigning world champion - Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Point-7 / Shamal Windsurfing Sunglasses) - has recorded a mixed bag of results so far this week with the Italian only qualifying for two winners’ finals out of the five races completed. However, the 27-year-old is still in 5th place after he dug deep to secure a clinical victory in the final race of the day. Iachino will be hoping that it is possible to complete at least a further two eliminations tomorrow, which would bring the second discard into play and provide him with the opportunity to be one of the biggest movers of the day. Andrea Cucchi (Starboard / Point-7) currently occupies 6th place, but the Italian was visibly annoyed at himself in race five when he inexplicably dropped his third gybe in the semifinals when in the qualifying positions. Ross Williams (Tabou / GA Sails / Mystic / Shamal Windsurfing Sunglasses) produced a couple of miraculous comebacks today to earn the worthy title as the comeback King. The Brit flirted with danger in two successive heats in the opening race of the day - quarters and semifinals - and looked to be down and out, but he somehow reeled in his rivals to advance into the winners’ final. The pick of the bunch of his manoeuvres came in the quarterfinals of Race 2 when he jumped from 7th to 4th with a text-book gybe at the last to progress. The 37-year-old is currently in 7th place heading into the final day, but things could’ve been even better had he not suffered a broken boom. Tristan Algret (Starboard / Severne / Mystic / Chopper Fins) made a flying start to the day as he chased home Pascal Toselli in the opening race to claim second place, before finishing 7th in the next. Unfortunately after this his day faded somewhat with quarter and semifinal exits, but the 23-year-old remains on course for the top 10 - 8th at the moment. After a disappointing quarterfinal exit in the opening race of the week - Antoine Questel (Starboard / S2Maui) has produced an excellent recovery, which sees the 32-year-old rise to 9th. Questel’s best result came in the third elimination - 5th - and has then produced the consistency needed to challenge for the top 10 with results of 10th, 11th and 12th. Sebastian Kördel (Starboard / GA Sails) may have suffered disappointing quarterfinal exits in the opening two races, but since then the German has recovered brilliantly to move into the final place in the top 10. The 26-year-old had looked quick in both South Korea and Japan and things finally clicked into place as he recorded a 4th and two 9th’s in the last 3 eliminations today. Kördel will be another sailor hoping for a further two eliminations as he could potentially then discard and 18.5, which could then open up the possibility of a top 5 finish. Elsewhere, Ingmar Daldorf (Tabou / GA Sails) showed he has the speed and the talent to compete with the best names in the business after recording a superb second place Elimination 4. If the flying Dutchman can find the recipe to consistently find that form then he could be one to watch for the remainder of the season. Gabriele Browne (Goya Windsurfing / Point-7) is in his first year back on the PWA World Tour and he’s enjoying a fine event - currently ranked 11th. The Brazilian qualified for the first winners’ final of the day to take home 5th place, while making the semifinals on a further two occasions, but has just a one-point advantage over Finian Maynard (99NoveNove / Gun Sails) - who is very much still in the hunt for successive top 10 finishes. Last year’s world No.6 - Taty Frans (Starboard / GA Sails / Mystic) - suffered a couple of disastrous eliminations to start the event, with a snapped harness line costing him dearly in the second elimination, but since then he has firmly set himself on the road to recovery with 4th, 8th and 12th place finishes in the last 3 races, which sees him rise to 13th. Frans is another sailor, who could massively benefit from the second discard and a top 10 finish is very much on the cards if the wind shows up again tomorrow. Fellow Bonairean - Amado Vrieswijk (JP / Severne) - who is the freestyle vice-world champion - also enjoyed a fine day as he qualified for three semifinals to show he also possesses some serious skills on the race course. The 21-year-old recorded his first top 10 in a single race - Race 3. After his best ever result in the last event - Jordy Vonk (Fanatic / NorthSails) - will be disappointed to find himself down in 18th place, but Julien Quentel (Patrik / Avanti) may be the most disappointed man of all. The 30-year-old won the event in Japan, but finds himself in a lowly 32nd place after becoming involved in a number of tussles and collisions in the five races thus far and realistically there is no-way back for the man from Saint Maarten here in Costa Brava - and he will just have to erase this event from his memory. The forecast looks excellent for tomorrow with clear skies and moderate southeasterly winds being predicted, which should hopefully provide a Super Sunday finale to the 2017 Catalunya PWA World Cup. The sailors will meet again at 10:30am tomorrow morning for the skippers’ meeting with the action commencing from 11am (GMT+2) onwards. Arnon Dagan gewinnt die erste Elimination an der Costa Brava
Der Wind war schwach die letzten paar Tage an der Costa Brava, einige Foil-Rennen wurden gefahren, erst heute hatte es etwas mehr Wind rund 8-15 Knoten. Somit konnte die erste Elimination bei leichtem Wind abgeschlossen werden. Arnon Dagan (RRD / NeilPryde), gewann das erste Rennen und führt das Ranking um den Event-Titel an.
Elimination One
In the light airs Arnon Dagan looked exceptionally quick and the Israeli easily booked his place in the winners’ final with two comfortable victories in both the quarters and semifinals. Dagan carried that perfect form into the winners’ final as he led from start to finish with an astute display, which saw him extend his advantage over the duration of the course to secure a comprehensive bullet.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Goyard (RRD / Point-7 / Mystic), produced one of the performances of the day as the 21-year-old qualified for the winners’ final, but he wasn’t happy to purely make up the numbers in Heat 16 and at the first mark he leapfrogged Pascal Toselli (99NoveNove / LoftSails / Chopper Fins) and Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (Starboard / Severne / Chopper Fins) to move into the top two - a position which he was able to defend over the remainder of the course to claim a superb second place.
Pascal Toselli will be pleased with his 3rd place finish in the opening race here after missing out on the finals in Japan, while Costa Hoevel has now qualified for both winners’ finals which have been completed this year and he sits in 4th at the end of day 3.
Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde) starts the event with a 5th place finish, while vice-world champion - Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails / Chopper Fins) had to settle for 6th ahead of Andrea Cucchi (Starboard / Point-7) and Steve Allen (Patrik / Severne), who blew his start in the final but still sits in 8th.
After missing out on the winners’ final reigning world champion - Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Point-7 / Shamal Windsurfing Sunglasses) - put the disappointment of being absent from the final behind him as the Italian destroyed the rest of the field in the Heat 15 to secure 9th place, while limiting the damage to as little as physically possible.
Ross Williams (Tabou / GA Sails / Mystic / Shamal Windsurfing Sunglasses) will be gutted that the first attempt to complete the second semifinal was cancelled as the Brit already held a substantial lead after the opening buoy and would’ve almost certainly qualified for the winners’ final. However, upon the restart, Williams tried to execute a tight inside gybe at the first as he battled against Cucchi, Costa Hoevel and Goyard for a place in the top 4, but in pushing so hard he ended up in the drink, which resulted in his elimination despite valiantly fighting his way back into 5th. The 37-year-old then finished second in Heat 15 to claim 10th.
In the same heat - Jordy Vonk (Fanatic / NorthSails) - who came into Costa Brava on the back of his first podium in Japan - was disappointed with how he gybed in the losers’ final, which ultimately cost him 10th place in the opening elimination as Williams and Tristan Algret (Starboard / Severne / Mystic / Chopper Fins) both punished his sloppy gybes to overtake.
The other main story of the day involved Julien Quentel (Patrik / Avanti), who came into the event as the tour leader, but he suffered a surprise early exit as he failed to advance from the quarterfinals. Quentel found himself with a large deficit to reduce as the fleet headed down the opening reach and he almost completed an unthinkable comeback, but ultimately his missed out in 5th and he made his frustrations and anger clear once back on the beach. The 30-year-old will now be praying that there is enough wind for a discard to come into play otherwise he will have undone all of his hard work from Japan.
The second elimination was started immediately after the conclusion of the opening race, but after the first heat had been completed, which saw Ben van der Steen (Patrik / Gun Sails / Mystic) safely progress after claiming the win ahead of Ramon Pastor (99NoveNove / LoftSails), Tom Malina (Fanatic / NorthSails) and Marc Paré (Simmer / Simmer) - the wind deteriorated and the sailors were soon released for the day.
The forecast for tomorrow shows easterly winds of 8-9 knots for tomorrow afternoon, so whether the sea breeze will kick in without enough south in the wind remains to be seen. The skippers’ meeting has been called for 10:30am with the action commencing from 11am (GMT+2) onwards. Multivan Summer Opening startet mit Freestyle-Action!
Das Multivan Summer Opening empfing die besten deutschen Kitesurfer mit strahlendem Sonnenschein und vier bis fünf Windstärken aus Nord-West. Gleich am ersten Wettkampftag kamen die Freestyler zum Zuge. „Sylt ist ein toller Kitesurf-Spot. Die Wellen und besonders die Wellentäler bieten optimale Rampen für spektakuläre Sprünge und Tricks“, freut sich Dennis Petersen.
Aufgrund des Westwindes konnten die Wettkämpfe direkt unter Land und vor den Augen der zahlreichen Zuschauer ausgetragen werden.
Im Freestyle treten die Teilnehmer in den Kategorien Herren, Junioren und Damen gegeneinander an. Es gilt innerhalb von 7 Minuten seine besten Sprünge und Tricks zu zeigen. Diese werden von einer fachkundigen Jury bewertet. Der beste Teilnehmer qualifiziert sich für die nächste Runde. Am heutigen Tag konnten zunächst die Vorrundenheats der Kategorien ausgefahren werden.
Bei zunächst noch unteren fünf Windstärken gingen die Junioren, die Kitesurfer unter 19 Jahren an den Start. Insgesamt konnten die ersten acht Ausscheidungsrunden (Vorrunden) abgeschlossen werden. In den kommenden Tagen werden sich Jonas Ouahmid, Tobias Albrecht, Jasper Lund, Jan Burgdörfer, Julian Hein, Xaver Kiebler, Jan-Phillip Ehm und Elias Ouahmid erneute gegenüber stehen.
Am frühen Nachmittag nahm der Wind weiter zu und so konnten auch die Freestyle-Herren ihre besten Tricks und Sprünge präsentieren. Tausende Zuschauer beobachteten das bunte Treiben direkt unter Land. Bei den Herren ist ein spannendes Finale zwischen dem amtierenden Deutschen Meister Linus Erdmann und dem Vizemeister Marian Hund zu erwarten.
Wenn die Kitesurfer den Feierabend einläuten, geht es auf der Eventpromenade erst richtig los. Ab 21:00 Uhr heizte der legendäre DJ „Beauty & the Beats“ den Besuchern ein. Der zweite Eventtag verspricht erneut optimale Kitebedingungen vor allem für alle Racer und Slalompiloten. Das Eventgelände öffnet täglich von 10:00 bis 22:00 Uhr.

NEU 2017 - "FLX" by Jaeger Stone
Jaeger Stone hat in die Entwicklung "seines" FLX einiges an Aufwand investiert. Dabei herausgekommen ist ein Trapez, dass bei geringem Gewicht nochmals etwas softer als das "LUX" geworden ist. Eine komplett in Neopren gehaltene Innenseite und weiche (Neopren) Kanten freuen alle Wave,- und Freestyle Fahrer, denen die Manöver nicht verdreht genug sein können.
Bei den Sitztrapezen hat SEVERNE zwei Modelle in der Range. Das "POD" wurde für Leichtgewichte konzipiert, während das "CMR" für Komfort und maximalen Support steht. Vom 25. bis 28. Mai werden im Rahmen der Multivan Kitesurf Masters weitere Ranglistenpunkte auf dem Weg zum Meisterschaftstitel gesammelt. Anschließend sind vom 29. Mai bis 05. Juni die Windsurfer zu Gast am Brandenburger Strand. Die besten Racer der Welt werden nach Sylt reisen, um innerhalb der Formula Windsurfing Weltmeisterschaften sich zu messen. Das große Rahmen- und Partyprogramm bietet auch für die weniger Sportbegeisterten tolle Unterhaltung und macht die Veranstaltung zu einem Event für die ganze Familie.
Parallel zum Multivan Windsurf Cup ist vom 01. bis 04. Juni der zweite Tourstopp der German SUP Challenge zu Gast auf Sylt. Von Donnerstag bis Sonntag findet der einzige SUP Wave Contest in Deutschland statt. Abhängig von den Bedingungen startet am Samstag oder Sonntag das Technical Beach Race, als 4Star Event der GSUPA und Isa World Championships Quali.

Surf Festival 2017

Speedwindsurfen für Jedermann beim Mercedes-Benz Surf-Festival Fehmarn 2017.
Auch der Verein Deutscher Speedsurfer, kurz VDS, ist beim 15. Surffestival auf Fehmarn dabei. Er lädt alle, die am speedwindsurfen interessiert sind recht herzlich ein, nicht nur den Stand auf dem Surffestival zu besuchen, sondern auch am freien GPS-Fahren am Südstrand teilzunehmen. Selbstverständlich mit Auswertung der gefahrenen Zeiten und Erstellung einer Rangliste der schnellsten Fahrer/-innen. Die Siegerehrung für die schnellsten Mädchen/Jungen und Damen/Herren wird am Samstagabend auf dem Surf-Festival stattfinden.
Die gefahrenen Zeiten werden auch direkt auf der Website www.gps-speedsurfing.com für den German Speed King 2017 hochgeladen, also doppelte Gewinnchance für Euch. Wer kein GPS-Gerät hat, kann sich beim VDS am Stand eins ausleihen.
Parallel, bei guten Windbedingungen, habt Ihr die Möglichkeit am Qualifikationsrennen für die Deutsche Meisterschaft im Speedwindsurfen 2017, in der Orther Reede / Fehmarn teilzunehmen. Also auf nach Fehmarn und Gas geben!

Tag 4 - Julien Quentel gewinnt die erste Elimination!
Der ersehnte Wind kam am Tag vier des 2017er Fly! ANA Yokosuka PWA World Cups und die erste Elimination der Herren konnte abgeschlossen werden. Der Gewinner des ersten vollständigen Rennens ist Julien Quentel (Patrik / Avanti), er führt jetzt das Eventranking an.
Bei den Damen wurde heute die zweite Elimination gestartet, die jedoch nicht beendet werden konnte. Noch zwei Tage läuft der Event in Japan, wir hoffen auf weitere spannende Rennen.
Women’s Elimination Two
In the first women’s semifinal the top seeds made no mistakes as Lena Erdil (Starboard / Point-7 / AL360), Delphine Cousin Questel (Starboard / S2Maui), and Marion Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails) safely navigated their way into the winners’ final along with Yuki Sunaga (LoftSails), who did well to battle back and grab 4th place ahead of Fulya Ünlü (Starboard / Point-7 / Mystic), who grabbed the last place qualifying place after finishing 5th.
Current event and world tour leader - Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) - made no mistakes in the second semifinal as she went on to win the heat ahead of Maëlle Guilbaud (Patrik / LoftSails), Fujiko Onishi (99NoveNove / Point-7), Oda Johanne (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) and Marianne Rautelin (Patrik / LoftSail), but there was disappointment for Esther de Geus (JP / Point-7) as the 25-year-old missed out on a place in the winners’ final for the first time this season.
Men’s Elimination One
Winners’ Final
The first attempt to run the winners’ final today resulted in a cancellation due to the wind dropping below 7 knots when Jordy Vonk (Fanatic / NorthSails) was leading the heat. Upon the restart, Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (Starboard / Severne / Chopper Fins) timed his start perfectly, just as he had done in the previous effort, but the Argentine’s hopes were then dashed with weed around his fin, all but ending his chances of winning the final.
Instead, it was Quentel and Finian Maynard (99NoveNove / Gun Sails), who were left to fight it out as the fleet headed to the opening mark, but it was Quentel who seized the initiative as the man from Saint Maarten produced a textbook gybe to dive down the inside of Maynard to break into the lead. Quentel had been leading the winners’ final yesterday before it was cancelled, but there was no cancellation this time around as the 30-year-old held tight to secure the first bullet of the season.
Behind him, Vonk managed to manoeuvre himself into the top two and the flying Dutchman, who has looked dangerous both here and South Korea, deservedly earned himself his best result in an elimination so far as he secured a brilliant second place.
Meanwhile, Maynard, was desperately unlucky as the seaweed caused more havoc, which resulted in him losing out on 3rd place to Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde) just before the finish line with Maynard completing the course sideways. The 42-year-old was bitterly disappointed, but fourth still marks an excellent result.
Andrea Rosati (RRD / Loft Sails) secured 5th place while reigning world champion and vice-world champion - Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Point-7 / Shamal Windsurfing Sunglasses) and Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails / Chopper Fins) - had to settle for 6th and 7th place respectively.
Julien Quentel after winning the opening race: “The conditions were very hard, so I’m super happy to get the win. I went down the first reach with Finian [Maynard] and there was only a small gap but I managed to gybe inside, maybe last year I wouldn’t have gone for it, but this year I’m going for it. I’m feeling more confident on my gear this year as it's my second year with Patrik and Avanti and now I have the boards and sails that I want, so I’d like to say thanks for them both and of course thanks to my friends and family and everyone supporting me.“
Flying Dutchman - Jordy Vonk : “I had a pretty bad start, but I caught a gust and I think I had some advantage because I was on 8.4m, when the other guys were on 9.0m or 9.4m, so I was able to go between Antoine [Albeau] and Gonzalo [Costa Hoevel] and I took the first mark in third place and then I was trying to chase down Julien, but I couldn’t quite do that. But second is sick. I’m super happy - especially after leading the last winners’ final until the final mark and then having it cancelled. I was just trying to stay calm. Thanks to my family, my girlfriend, friends and sponsors.”
In the losers’ final, Ross Williams (Tabou / GA Sails / Mystic / Shamal Windsurfing Sunglasses) and Sebastian Kördel (Starboard / GA Sails) secured the remaining places in the top 10 - with the Brit holding off a stern challenge from the German to finish 9th and 10th, respectively, while Cyril Moussilmani (99NoveNove / Severne) and Antoine Questel (Starboard / S2Maui) were the next closest challengers.
Elimination Two
The opening round of the second elimination was also completed and so far there has been no major upsets. The local Japanese sailors enjoyed an excellent first round though with Akihiko Yamada (Patrik / LoftSails), Tomohiko Suzuki (Fanatic / NorthSails) and Tomohiko Komai (Starboard / GA Sails) all advancing from Heat 1, while Norio Asano (Fanatic / S2Maui) was also able to book his place in the next round.
The forecast currently predicts moderate to strong winds for tomorrow afternoon, so hopefully, there will be the opportunity to complete further eliminations. The skippers’ meeting has been called for 9:30am with the action commencing from 10am (GMT+9)

Tag 3 - Sarah-Quita Offringa strahlt wieder, sie gewann das zweite Rennen dieser Saison und erhellt damit einen ansonsten düsteren Tag.
Tag drei des Fly! ANA PWA World Cups begann mit kaum einem Hauch von Wind, der Tsukuihama Beach befand sich scheinbar in der Mitte eines Tiefdruckgebietes. Während des Vormittags und am frühen Nachmittags fiel der sintflutartige Regen weiter, eigentlich ein miserabler Tag, aber um 14:30 Uhr begann der vorhergesagte Wind zu kommen und bot einen Hoffnungsschimmer.
Das Racing wurde schnell gestartet, aber die Bedingungen blieben extrem knifflig mit böigem und drehendem Wind, der gerne mal wieder Chaos spielte. Doch bis zum Ende des dritten Tages ist ein Ergebnis für die Damen gefahren worden, während die Elimination bei den Herren vor Durchführung der beiden Finalläufe mangels Wind beendet werden musste - eine Situation, die Erinnerungen an die jüngste Veranstaltung in Südkorea wach ruft.
Women’s
Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) produced another dominant performance as she led from start to finish - just as she did in South Korea - to claim her second bullet of the season in as many races. The 25-year-old has made the perfect start to her title defence and if she continues this rich vein of form it is extremely difficult to see anyone stopping her from claiming a hat-trick of world titles.
After missing out on the winners’ final in South Korea, due to a snapped outhaul - Delphine Cousin Questel (Starboard / S2Maui) - knew it was imperative to make a quick start here if she wanted to get her season back on track, and that’s exactly what the former two-time world champion managed to do as she hit back with a solid second place in the opening race of the week.
Meanwhile, Lena Erdil (Starboard / Point-7 / AL360) continued her sharp start to the season as she secured third place ahead of Maëlle Guilbaud (Patrik / LoftSails) and Esther de Geus (JP / Point-7).
Marion Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails), who started the season with a third place, was unhappy to miss out on the winners’ final, but she regained her composure to win the losers’ final ahead of fellow compatriot Marion Dusart(Patrik / Gun Sails) and Oda Johanne (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins).
Men’s
In the men’s draw there were plenty of changes in comparison to Korea as Sebastian Kördel (Starboard / GA Sails), Taty Frans (Starboard / GA Sails / Mystic), Maciek Rutkowski (Tabou / GA Sails) and Marco Lang (Fanatic / NorthSails) all missed out on a place in the winners’ final this time around.
Today also saw a mixture of fortune. In Heat 5 - Nicolas Warembourg (JP / NeilPryde) - was on the unfortunate side of luck, as when the Frenchman was qualifying for the quarterfinals, he was impeded by weed around his fin, which cost him dearly as Enrico Marotti (JP / NeilPryde), Josh Angulo (Angulo / S2Maui), Benjamin Augé (Patrik / Sailloft Hamburg) and Andrea Rosati (RRD / LoftSails) all qualified - with the real tale being that Rosati, who would’ve otherwise missed out, then going on to qualify for the winners’ final.
Vice-world champion - Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails / Chopper Fins) - produced a great piece of work late on in Heat 10 as he fought back to snatch the final qualifying place into the semifinals from Maciek Rutkowski. After a slightly slow start, Mortefon then recaptured the form expected of him as he went on to win his semifinal to comfortably qualify for the winners’ final.
In the first semifinal - Josh Angulo and Ross Williams (Tabou / GA Sails / Mystic / Shamal Windsurfing Sunglasses) - were both disqualified for premature starts, while Finian Maynard (99NoveNove / GunSails) was fortunate that his premature start was overturned due to the wind being deemed unsuitable in the run up to the next start. The 42-year-old has lost 10 kilos over the winter and he’s already starting to see the fruits of his labour after booking his place in the winners’ final as he, Mortefon, Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (Starboard / Severne / Chopper Fins) and Rosati all advanced from Heat 13.
There was further drama in Heat 14, which almost proved to be the Heat of Doom again, with several efforts being needed to successfully complete the heat.
On once occasion, Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde), looked to be comfortably qualifying for the final, until getting caught out by the weed as he rounded the third buoy, which caused him to go over the handlebars and allow his rivals to overtake. Luckily for AA a wind shift on the last reach meant that several sailors were unable to finish the course and a resail was called for, which was extremely harsh on Nico Prien (JP / NeilPryde), who had sailed fantastically to secure third place - and a spot in the final - only to see his hard work undone through no fault of his own.
Upon the resail Jordy Vonk (Fanatic / NorthSails) produced a brilliant performance to win the heat ahead of reigning world champion - Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Point-7 / Shamal Windsurfing / Sunglasses) - and Albeau, while there was an amazing cat and mouse battle for the remaining spot in the final between Julien Quentel (Patrik / Avanti) and Antoine Questel (Starboard / S2Maui), which the man from Saint Maarten eventually won.
The winners’ final was started on a couple of times, but unfortunately, on both occasions, it had to be cancelled due to the wind dropping below 7 knots. With the light quickly fading and the boats needing to return to harbour the competition was officially called off at 6:15pm.
The forecast for tomorrow shows the possibility of some marginal wind in the morning with northerly winds of 12-19 knots currently being predicted. With this in mind, the skippers’ meeting has been called for 7:30am with the action commencing from 8am (GMT+9) - if conditions allow.
