Leider gab es auch am letzten Tag keine Wettkampfbedingungen und so geht der NetIP Cold Hawaii PWA-Worldcup ohne ein offizielles Ergebnis zu Ende.

Duncan Coombs, Head Judge der PWA, hatte das Skippersmeeting bereits um 06.45 abgehalten, in der Hoffnung am letzten Tag doch noch den Wettkampf starten zu können. Jedoch machten schwacher ablandiger Wind und kleine Wellen den Teilnehmern einen Strich durch die Rechnung.
Es wurde dann ein Tow-in Sprung-Wettbewerb gestartet, Dieter Van der Eyken (StB / Severn), Amado Vrieswijk (JP / Severn), Ricardo Campello (Patrik / Point- 7 / MFC) und Robby Swift (JP / NeilPryde / Mystic / SWOX) sorgten hier für Unterhaltung der vielen Zuschauer. Nach fünf Tagen in der Warteschleife, kam endlich der ersehnte Wind am vorletzten Tag des 2016 NetIP Cold Hawaii PWA-Worldcups. Die Qualifikationsrunde konnte im Laufe des Nachmittags abgeschlossen werden. Qualifying Round Loick Lesauvage (Goya Windsurfing / Shamal Sunglasses) was the standout sailor in the qualifying round and the 16 year old deservedly booked his place in the main draw after coming out on top against Amado Vrieswijk (JP / Severne), Gustav Haggstrom (RRD / RRD Sails) and Max Droege (Sailloft Hamburg). Julian Salmonn (Severne / Severne) and Julien Quentel (Patrik / Avanti) advanced from the second and third heat, while local boy Mads Bjorna (Fanatic / Simmer) secured the remaining spot in the main draw after winning the repechage round.  There is still an outside chance of competing tomorrow with the forecast showing 15-24 knots and 1.5 metre waves, but it will all depend how offshore the wind is. Wenigstens die Wellen kamen zurück nach Cold Hawaii um am 3. Tag einen SUP-Wettbewerb zu ermöglichen. Der Wind blieb während des Tages schwach, die Starter blieben einen weiteren Tag auf Stand-by. Das Wartespiel ging weiter an Tag 4 des 2016 NetIP Cold Hawaii PWA-Worldcups mit kleinem Swell und weiterhin leichtem Wind. Im Laufe des Nachmittags fand ein Fun-SUP Rennen statt. Team France - Jules Denel (JP / NeilPryde), Antoine Martin (JP / NeilPryde / MFC), Morgan Noireaux (JP / Hot Sails Maui) und Alex Grand-Guillot (Fanatic / North Sails) – gewannen. Day 3: The SUP contest saw 9 sailors competing for a place in the final — Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / NorthSails / MFC / Shamal Sunglasses) and Pablo Ramirez (Patrik / Sailloft Hamburg) successfully advanced from the opening heat before Lars Petersen (JP / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) and Moritz Mauch (Severne / Severne Sails / MFC) secured the last two places in the final.  Final For the final the heat duration was extended to 20 minutes to allow the competitors more time to wait for the sets. Mauch destroyed the final with a combination of carving roundhouses and slashy turns to claim a clear cut victory. The battle for 2nd and 3rd saw a close run fight between Petersen and Fernandez, but Petersen just edged the duel with his local knowledge proving pivotal, while Ramirez completed the top 4. The forecast for tomorrow shows moderate offshore winds for the morning, but with a smaller, shorter period swell running, which looks like it will be another tricky day to run any official competition. Fortunately, I’m staying with [Josep] Pons, so we’ve been doing some training with him over the last few days. The trick is to stay busy otherwise, it’s easy to become frustrated.” Pablo Ramirez (Patrik / Sailloft Hamburg): “While waiting for the conditions we normally just prepare all the gear and everything for the contest, once all is ready we just spend time at the beach at the event playing ping pong or foosball, waiting till some expression session or something is run. Apart from that we just lay at home, there is always some email or something to work on, and then just watching movies is usually a great way to kill some hours…” Leon Jamaer (JP / NeilPryde): “I kept busy with surfing and running the last few days. The weather has been perfect to enjoy the nature to the fullest around here.” Tomorrow is a new day and with it, it looks like a new cold front arrives bringing the possibility of starting the main draw. The forecast is currently predicting westerly winds of up to 20 knots and the conditions should improve throughout the day. Auch am zweiten Tag des NetIP Cold Hawaii PWA-Worldcups gab es keine Wettkämpfe, wie vorhergesagt gab es nur leichten Wind und kleine Wellen. During the afternoon a tow-in exhibition featuring — Amado Vrieswijk (JP / Severne), Dieter Van der Eyken (Starboard / Severne), Alessio Stillrich (Fanatic / NorthSails), Sebastian Kornum (JP / NeilPryde) and Rasmus Oegelund (Patrik / Sailloft Hamburg) was held to keep the crowds entertained. Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / NorthSails / MFC / Shamal Sunglasses) currently leads the world tour having won both of the opening events and we caught up with the Spaniard for a quick interview, while the wait for wind and waves continue.  PWA: You’ve always had excellent results in Cold Hawaii… how does it feel to be back?  VF: “I´m always happy to be back on every event on tour and especially Klitmøller as I love the variety of the conditions that this spot can offer. I’ve had some good results here in the last years and I hope that we will get the conditions we need to be able to compete this week.” PWA: Probably the question everyone is asking you… but last week saw your main rival for the title — Philip Köster (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) ruled out with injury, which gives you a little bit more space at the top of the rankings — does that take the pressure off you slightly or…?  VF: “I feel good, I don’t put pressure on myself and I don’t like to think further ahead than my first heat here in Klitmøller as I have been in a similar position a few years back, so I´m just focusing on performing well at this event.  I´m very sorry for Philip as getting injured is every sailor's worst nightmare and I wish him the best recovery.” PWA: Setup wise what does your quiver consist of for here?  VF: “I have 3.4m-5.8m sails and 75l Quad up to 90l plus my big Stubby and I’ll take the same quiver to Sylt, Germany and La Torche, France.” PWA: Thanks, Victor, and good luck. Meanwhile, Marcilio Browne (Goya Windsurfing / MFC), currently occupies 4th place in the overall rankings but is still recovering from a recent injury added: “I broke the first metatarsal about 4 and a half weeks ago. It’s still pretty sore, but I will take some painkillers when we compete and see how it goes. I did it trying a shifty on my first day back in Maui.” The forecast for tomorrow again looks like very light wind, but with a long period swell (0.4m at 14s) there is the possibility of running a SUP competition  — in the event that the wind remains too light for float and ride. Schlimme Nachricht für den dreimaligen Windsurf-Weltmister Philip Köster. Während seiner Vorbereitung in Australien auf die nächsten World Cups im dänischen Klittmöller und dem Highlight der Saison, dem Windsurf World Cup Sylt, verletzte sich der 22-Jährige schwer. Nach einem Sprung verdrehte sich Köster bei der Landung aus rund sechs Metern das rechte Knie und riss sich dabei das Kreuzband. Außerdem zog er sich einen Innenbandanriss und einen Meniskusschaden zu. Köster reiste sofort nach Hamburg, um sich dort weiteren Untersuchungen von Professor Dr. Karl-Heinz Frosch in der Asklepios Klinik zu unterziehen. Köster wird noch diese Woche in Hamburg operiert und beginnt anschließend direkt mit der Reha. „Ich kann es nicht fassen. Meine Vorbereitung in Australien war perfekt, ich war topfit. Und dann passiert mir so etwas, ausgerechnet in der letzten Trainingseinheit. Die Saison ist leider gelaufen. Aber ich werde hier von Herrn Professor Frosch und seinem Team bestens betreut. Jetzt geht es darum, schnell wieder fit zu werden“, sagte Köster.

Die Windsurf-Saison läuft auf Hochtouren, seit Monaten wird bei der PWA World Tour um Titel und WM-Punkte gekämpft. In rund zwei Wochen beginnt jedoch das Highlight des Jahres: Vom 30. September bis zum 9. Oktober lockt der Mercedes-Benz Windsurf World Cup Sylt die besten Wellenreiter, Freestyler und Slalomfahrer auf Deutschlands nördlichste Insel. Während sich die deutschen Damen Steffi Wahl und Lina Erpenstein mitten in der Vorbereitung auf das sportliche Großereignis befinden, fuhren die deutschen Slalom-Asse in Dänemark Erfolge ein Nach drei Stationen im warmen Spanien hat bei der PWA Weltserie die Nord-Tour begonnen. Die schnellsten Windsurfer der Welt trafen im dänischen Hvide Sande aufeinander und die deutschen Teilnehmer rockten das Feld. Der frisch gebackene Deutsche Meister Vincent Langer drehte voll auf und gewann zum ersten Mal eine Wettfahrt auf der World Tour. Sein Kollege Sebastian Kördel glänzte zudem mit seinem ersten Podiumsplatz. Ab dem 19. September beginnt das Flug-Festival der Waverider in Klitmøller. Der Mercedes-Benz Windsurf World Cup ist die letzte Station dieser nordischen Serie. Danach folgen noch zwei Stopps in Frankreich und der Abschluss auf Hawaii. Steffi Wahl, Deutschlands beste Waveriderin, bereitet sich zurzeit im englischen Cornwall auf das Wassersport-Highlight in Westerland vor. Die Fünfte der PWA Weltrangliste stieg 1997 in den World Cup Zirkus ein und feierte zehn Jahre später mit dem dritten Platz auf Sylt einen ihrer größten Erfolge. Lina Erpenstein ist halb so alt wie die Kielerin. Die 19-jährige Weltranglistensechste holt sich im dänischen Hanstholm den letzten Schliff für das XXL-Event auf Sylt. Seit die junge Wellenreiterin aus Aschaffenburg in der Weltklasse mitmischt, sieht Steffi Wahl einem möglichen Karriereende gelassen entgegen. Die Kielerin: „Ich habe bereits mit dem Gedanken gespielt, meine internationale Laufbahn zu beenden. Aber da kein deutsches Mädel nachkam, hatte ich Angst, dass das Windsurfen der Frauen bei uns total in der Versenkung verschwindet. Seit Lina dabei ist, bin ich entspannt. Wenn der Moment mal kommt, kann ich ganz beruhigt aufhören.“ Beim Mercedes-Benz Windsurf World Cup Sylt präsentiert die Marke mit dem Stern die idealen Begleiter für Windsurfer und Sportbegeisterte. Die V-Klasse und der Marco Polo bieten genug Platz für Familie, Freunde und Ausrüstung und surfen dabei souverän über jede Bodenwelle. Hautnah können die beiden Großraumlimousinen an der Mercedes-Benz #sportsgarage erlebt und inspiziert werden. Am Stand gibt es tolle Aktionen, außerdem werden Probefahrten angeboten. Mit einer Brise Unterhaltung und geballter Sportpower ist die #sportsgarage Treffpunkt für Profis wie den 16-maligen deutschen Windsurfmeister Bernd Flessner, Sportbegeisterte sowie die ganze Familie.

Hinter den Aktiven des Deutschen Windsurf Cups liegt eine spannende und sehr windreiche Regattasaison. Insgesamt sieben Veranstaltungen der höchsten deutschen Serie im Windsurfen standen 2016 auf dem Tourplan und bei allen Tourstopps konnte die Disziplin Slalom ausgetragen werden. Der amtierende Deutsche Meister Vincent Langer (GER-1) aus Kiel war dabei das Maß aller Dinge und sicherte sich überlegen den Sieg in der Slalom-Gesamtwertung 2016. Der Deutsche Windsurf Cup ist die höchste Regattaserie im Windsurfen in Deutschland. In den vier Disziplinen Racing, Slalom, Waveriding und Freestyle wird hier um Spitzenplatzierungen in der nationalen Rangliste gekämpft. Hinter den Aktiven liegen in diesem Jahr sieben Tourstopps an Nord- und Ostsee. Dabei zeigten sich die jeweiligen Reviere von ihrer besten Seite und bescherten den Aktiven beste Bedingungen. Den Auftakt machte das Summer Opening auf Sylt Anfang Mai, bei dem Vincent Langer den ersten Sieg der Saison für sich verbuchen konnte. Auch bei den folgenden Veranstaltungen setzte er seine Siegesserie fort. Einzig beim Long Distance Race auf Fehmarn, an dem Langer nicht teilnahm und Nicolas Prien (GER-7) siegte und beim DWC in Kühlungsborn, bei dem Langer dem Flensburger Gunnar Asmussen (GER-88) den Vortritt lassen musste, landete der Kieler im Slalom nicht auf dem ersten Rang. Seinem Erfolg und dem ersten Platz in der Slalom-Jahreswertung wurde das aber nicht gefährlich, da nur fünf der sieben Ergebnisse in die Geamtwertung eingehen. Auf den Plätzen zwei und drei der Slalom-Gesamtwertung finden sich Langers stärkste Konkurrenten wieder. Nicolas Prien (GER-7) aus Schönberg hat in dieser Saison mit seinem Sieg beim Long Distance Race auf Fehmarn und konstanten Top-3 Platzierungen bei den übrigen Veranstaltungen sein großes Siegerpotenzial gezeigt und landet damit auf dem zweiten Rang der Slalom-Jahreswertung. Doch der Weg dahin war nicht leicht und von einer ewigen Aufholjagd auf Dennis Müller (GER-89) von Norderney geprägt. Dieser lag nach einer starken Saison bis zur letzten DWC-Veranstaltung am Schönberger Strand in der Slalom-Jahreswertung vor Prien. Mit seinen zweiten Plätzen beim Summer Opening und den Veranstaltungen in Grömitz und auf Fehmarn hatte er einen soliden Grundstein für diesen Erfolg gelegt. Die letzte Veranstaltung am Schönberger Strand gab dann jedoch den Ausschlag. Hier konnte Prien den zweiten Platz einfahren und wurde nach dieser Veranstaltung mit der gleichen Punktzahl wie Müller in der Slalom-Jahreswertung geführt. Prien profitiert jedoch von den Ranglistenregeln, nach denen das Ergebnis der letzten Regatta der Saison bei Gleichstand ausschlaggebend ist und landet somit auf Rang zwei. Dennis Müller landete beim DWC Schönberger Strand nur auf dem fünften Rang und musste Prien damit vorbeiziehen lassen. Er feiert mit seinem dritten Platz in der Slalom-Jahreswertung dennoch einen großen Erfolg. Die Top-5 der Slalom-Gesamtwertung werden von Jan-Moritz Bochnia (GER-9) aus Greven und Leon Delle (GER-6) aus Soest komplettiert. Bochnia zeigte als Nachwuchsfahrer eine starke Leistung und ließ mit seinen konstanten Top-5 Platzierungen aufhorchen. Durch Verletzungspech konnte er die DM auf Sylt nicht beenden und es war lange nicht klar, ob er zum Saisonende am Schönberger Strand wieder fit sein würde. Mit einem eindrucksvollen dritten Platz meldete er sich jedoch zurück und holte noch einmal wichtige Ranglistenpunkte. Diese bescherten ihm schlussendlich den vierten Platz in der Slalom-Jahreswertung. Delle, der eher ein Racing-Experte ist, bewies mit seinem fünften Platz im Slalom, dass er auch in dieser Disziplin punkten kann. Besonders erwähnenswert in dieser Saison war sein fünfter Platz im Slalom, den er bei der DM auf Sylt einfahren konnte. Bester Youth (U-20) in der Slalom-Gesamtwertung wurde Luis Ponseti (GER-293) aus Kiel, der die Saison mit Rang neun abschließen konnte. Eine starke Leistung für den Nachwuchsfahrer, der sich damit unter den Top-10 der insgesamt 85 gelisteten Teilnehmer in der Disziplin Slalom behaupten konnte. Den Titel des besten Junior (U-17) holte sich Kai Paustian (GER-707) aus Kiel mit Rang 24. Ebenfalls beachtlich für den Neueinsteiger, der erst seit der letzten Saison am Deutschen Windsurf Cup teilnimmt. Beste Dame wurde Josephine Ramann (GER-858) aus Berlin auf Rang 54. In der Kategorie Grandmaster (Ü-45) siegte Oliver Schott (GER-26) aus Kiel, der sich auf dem 12. Rang der Slalom-Jahreswertung platzieren konnte. Der letzte Tag des 2016 Hvide Sande PWA-Worldcups verlief leider auch ohne weitere Rennen. Der Wind blieb während des ganzen Tages zwischen 5-12 Knoten so dass alle Starter um 16:30 entlassen wurden. Matteo Iachino ITA-140 steht ganz oben auf dem Podest und führt jetzt auch das Overall Ranking an. Sarah-Quita Offringa ARU 91 gewinnt bei den Damen und holt den 12. Weltmeistertitel ihrer Karriere Sehr erfreulich aus deutscher Sicht - Sebastian Koerdel GER220 auf Rang 3, er steht zum ersten Mal auf dem Podium bei der PWA World Tour, auf Rang vier landet Vincent Langer (Fanatic / NorthSails). The final day of the 2016 Hvide Sande PWA World Cup saw an intense finish to the event even though it wasn’t possible to complete any further racing. During the morning there was barely a breath of wind, but during the afternoon a marginal breeze  built — creating a nail biting wait for Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) and Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Point-7), who led the event at the time — with Offringa on the verge of a 3rd slalom world crown. However, the wind remained between 5-12 knots and with no further sign of improvement the sailors were released at 4:30pm — guaranteeing Offringa back-to-back slalom world titles and Iachino a second victory of the season, which sends the Italian to the top of the rankings for the first time since South Korea.  Sarah-Quita Offringa reacts after capturing her 3rd slalom world title — 12th overall — and her 2nd world title this season after winning her 9th freestyle world crown earlier this year: “I’m very happy. I was emotional when the event was officially called off because it’s been a stressful day with the conditions right on the edge, so it was pretty nerve wracking. It’s great to see so many girls competing with such a high level and hopefully that’s a good sign for the future. Thanks to all of my sponsors and much love to my family and friends for their non-stop support.” Lena Erdil (Starboard / Point-7 / AL360) ends 2016 as the vice-world champion: “I didn’t really realise how close I was to winning the title and that 2nd here would’ve been enough. I’m still really happy to win the second race here and to have won two out of the three races completed this year. Second place isn’t a bad result and at the start of the season I’d have probably taken it if it was offered. Its also great to see the fleet getting stronger and stronger and things look exciting for the future.” Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Point-7) returns to the top of the rankings: “I came here before the event, but the conditions were completely different when we started competing. I won in Korea and didn’t have the bestCosta Brava and was solid in Fuerte. Now I’m really happy to be leading. Me and Pierre have the same points but I think I lead because I’ve managed to win two events this year. It looks like it is going to be another exciting title race with two events to go." Sebastian Kördel (Starboard / GA Sails) earns a maiden podium: “This is two firsts for me even though I finished 3rd here. This was my first time to visit Denmark and my first podium finish on the world tour, which is a dream come true for me. This is only my second full year on tour, so I really wasn’t expecting this to happen so soon. It’s amazing. Eine schwache Windprognose für Tag 4 des Hvide Sande PWA-Worldcups – leider traf sie auch zu. Die Starter blieben in der Warteschleife, der Wind wurde den ganzen Tag über nicht ausreichend stark. Einige sind dann doch noch etwas aufs Wasser, die Mehrheit entschied sich jedoch fürs Foilsurfen. Auch am fünften und vorletzten Tag des Events ließ der Wind auf sich warten. Earlier in the day we caught up with a couple of the sailors to reflect on yesterday's racing: Sebastian Kornum (JP / NeilPryde) had this to say upon reaching his first winners’ final during yesterday’s racing: “First of all it was a big surprise for me as I’ve had some injuries over the summer and haven’t been practising that much.  From the beginning of the day my gear felt great — we have some new masts now — offering a lot of control and they felt good in the gybes. In the end I managed to make the winners’ final and I almost couldn’t believe it — it was a great feeling.  I’ve been here before to coach a few junior camps, but haven’t spent much time on the water here myself. Of course I’m aware of how the weather can be and we’ve been quite lucky during the event with the temperature. I knew the place a little bit but not really enough to offer any sort of advantage I think.” The 24 year old also holds some hope for the possibility of racing tomorrow, adding: “The local forecast actually looks OK for tomorrow — a little bit less than on Tuesday, but more from the southeast, which is a better direction for clean wind here.” Lena Erdil (Starboard / Point-7 / AL360) on giving herself a fighting chance of clinching a maiden slalom world title: “After the first day didn’t go so well I was really happy to win the final which we ran yesterday as it gives me more of a chance of doing well over the remainder of the event. At the moment though we are waiting for wind and I’m just crossing my fingers that we are able to get some more racing in.” After a quiet day the sailors were released at 5:30pm and they will meet again tomorrow morning at 10am for the skippers’ meeting with a first possible start of 10:30am. The best prospect for racing tomorrow looks as though it will be in the afternoon again. Women’s Title Race If things were to remain as they stand then Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Mystic / Maui Ultra Fins) would be crowned the PWA Women’s Slalom World Champion for the second successive season — which would be her 3rd slalom world title. Offringa had this to say when asked about the title race: “At the moment I’m just trying to keep all that at the back of my mind because it’s not over until its over. Of course I’m aware that I’m in a really good position, but I’m not celebrating anything yet. I’d also love to go racing, but lets see what happens.” The title race isn’t quite over yet though with Lena Erdil (Starboard / Point-7 / AL360) still in with a chance of winning a maiden world crown. However, the 27 year old would need to finish in at least 2nd place here.  In the event of one further race this would mean that Erdil would need to beat Delphine Cousin (Starboard / Gun Sails) by at least one place as this would see her rise into 2nd place, which would then mean Offringa and Erdil finish the season level on 4,167 points. Erdil would then be crowned champion on count back — having beaten Offringa more times this season with Erdil also winning the sole elimination completed in Korea earlier this year. Men’s Meanwhile, in the men’s division if things were to finish as they are now then Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Point-7) and Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails) would be tied on 6,201 points after 4 events with two more to go in Sylt, Germany, and La Torche, France. Iachino, would actually regain a narrow lead for the first time since South Korea with the 26 year old edging ahead on count back with two victories this season. The forecast for tomorrow looks very similar today with a moderate breeze being predicted, but from the west. The best chance for racing looks as though it will come in the morning so the skippers’ meeting has been called for 9am with the action commencing from 9:30am (GMT+2) — if conditions allow. Nach einer eintägigen Windpause konnte heute, am dritten Tag des Hvide Sande PWA-Worldcups, eine weitere Elimination sowohl bei den Damen als auch bei den Herren abgeschlossen werden. Lena Erdil (Starboard / Point-7 / AL360) gewann, ist wieder im Titelrennen dabei und übt etwas Druck auf Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Mystic / Maui Ultra Fins) die bislang Führende aus. Tolles Ergebnis für Vincent Langer (Fanatic / North Sails) er zeigte eine einwandfreie Leistung und gewann zum ersten mal eine Elimination auf der PWA-World-Tour. Women’s Elimination 2 Lena Erdil fought back on day three to keep her title aspirations alive by claiming victory in the second elimination. Erdil had started well on the opening day, but finished a disappointing 7th in the opening race, so the 27 year old knew it was imperative to produce a strong showing if she wanted to remain in the title race.  Victory today sees Erdil rise to 3rd in the event rankings, which keeps her in contact with Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Mystic / Maui Ultra Fins), who still leads the event and world rankings. The reigning world champion led the winners’ final into the first mark, but failed to make a clean exit from the first gybe and had to settle for 3rd place. However, Offringa, is still firmly in control with a 3.3 point advantage at the top of the rankings.  After a disappointing opening elimination Fulya Ünlü (Starboard / Severne) also fought back with an excellent 2nd place — coping superbly under pressure to keep Offringa at bay after an intense battle, which saw a photo finish as they crossed the finish line and the youth world champion rises to 7th in Hvide Sande.  Delphine Cousin Questel (Starboard / Gun Sails) currently holds 2nd place in the event rankings after a 4th place finish today, but the two-time word champion may have been hoping for slightly more as she goes in search of world title No.3. Elsewhere, Maja Dziarnowska (RRD / RRD) continued her excellent start to life on the PWA Slalom World Tour as the Pole qualified for another winners’ final before finishing 6th, which leaves her in 4th at the close of day three. Oda Johanne (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) produced a superb last gybe in the semifinals to cut inside Esther de Geus (JP / Point-7) to claim the last spot in the winners’ final — eventually finishing 8th to back up her 9th place in the opening race.  Elimination 3 The opening round of the third race was also completed and there has already been several upsets with Marion Dusart (Patrik / Gun Sails), Ayako Suzuki (Tabou / GA Sails / Mystic) and Marion Mortefon (Patrik / Gun Sails) all falling in the quarterfinals.  Meanwhile, María Andrés (Fanatic / NorthSails) did well to navigate her way into the semifinals from an unlikely looking position in Heat 3 — showing excellent pace and gybes to reel in her rivals to secure 4th behind Cousin Questel, Maëlle Guilbaud (Patrik / Loft Sails) and Fujiko Onishi (Starboard / Point-7). Men’s Elimination 2 Winners’ Final Vincent Langer (Fanatic / NorthSails) won both his quarter and semifinal in comprehensive fashion and continued his rich vein of form into the final. The German showed superb straight-line speed to hold the lead into the opening buoy ahead of Ben Van der Steen (Tabou / GA Sails), Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Point-7), Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde) and Ross Williams (Tabou / GA Sails / Mystic / Shamal Sunglasses) and from here Langer continued to extend his lead and was soon celebrating his first bullet on the world tour. Meanwhile, Van der Steen and Albeau bounced back from quarterfinal exits in the opening race to secure 2nd and 3rd place respectively with Taty Frans (Starboard / GA Sails / Mystic) finishing 4th. Matteo Iachino claimed 5th place in the winners’ final, which sees the Italian rise to the top of the event rankings after the current world tour leader — Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails) — missed out on a place in the winners’ final after a 5th place finish in Heat 14. The Frenchman then limited the damage by finishing 10th in Race 2 to remain 2nd overall — but Iachino now holds a 3.3 point lead at the top. Denmark’s Sebastian Kornum (JP / NeilPryde) produced a couple of cranking gybes in the quarters and semis to out manoeuvre his rivals around the buoys to book his place in the winners’ final. After an 8th place finish Kornum breaks into the current top 10 — 7th. Elimination 3 The major story of the men’s third race involves 23-time world champion — Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde), who looked as though he was set to recover from a slow first day. However, after his 3rd place finish in the previous race, AA, was eliminated from Heat 9 in tricky, light and gusty conditions, while Ross Williams, Arnon Dagan (RRD / NeilPryde), Ethan Westera (JP / GA Sails) and Nicolas Goyard (RRD / Point-7 / Mystic) all progressed. Albeau will now either have to pray for no more wind, so that this race cannot be completed, or that there is sufficient wind to allow for 7 races to be finished — bringing two discards into play. The day was drawn to a close shortly before 7pm with the conditions failing to improve. The forecast for tomorrow still offers some possibility for further racing, however, WindGuru predicts less wind than today with 9-14 knots. The skippers’ meeting has been called for 10am with the action commencing from 10:30am (GMT+2). Der Sommer kehrte am zweiten Tag nach Hvide Sande, Dänemark, zurück. Purer Sonnenschein und kaum der Hauch einer Brise, ganz im Gegensatz zu den gestrigen, nassen und windigen Bedingungen. With the racing on hold Taty Frans (Starboard / GA Sails / Mystic), Amado Vrieswijk (JP / Severne) and Davy Scheffers (Tabou / GA Sails) provided the entertainment during the afternoon with an explosive display of tow-in freestyle. Earlier in the day we caught up with a few sailors — including Sebastian Kördel (Starboard / GA Sails) — who earned his best result in a single race yesterday: PWA: What was your previous best result in a single elimination before now? SK: “I had a few 5th places before but a podium position feels different.” PWA: You clinched 3rd yesterday — can you talk us through the race a bit and how you felt afterwards/now? SK: “Right before the start of the winners final I noticed that it was super crowded on the pin. Everybody wanted to start low because the line was biased. I decided to keep clear of the pack and start more towards the boat. Worse positioning, but it's easier to hit the start perfectly, which I did. Coming to the gybe in second the next reach was the most intense. I had a drag race to the mark number two with Matteo [Iachino] and Arnon [Dagan]. I had to let Matteo go but I could hold Arnon back. After a decent second gybe I just settled for 3rd place and defended it to the finish line. I'm really happy with the result. I know, that it's only one race and the week is still long but I had a big smile on my face on the last reach.” PWA: What originally made you want to slalom race? SK: “Well, I'm just into racing in general and the PWA Slalom World Cup is the best and most thrilling way to race a windsurf board in my opinion.”  PWA: Aim for the rest of the week/season? SK: “My aim is to give everything in the upcoming races and enjoy my time on the water. Season wise I want to improve my ranking from last year.” PWA: Thanks, Sebastian, all the best for the remainder of the week. Lena Erdil (Starboard / Point-7 / AL360) will be hoping for better things tomorrow: “I was happy to qualify for the finals of the first places with all my heats, but a small tactical mistake at the buoy cost me dearly, so I finished the first day with a 7th place... not what I was hoping is but on the flip-side we still have 3 more racing days ahead so hopefully lots more action to come.” Kurosh Kiani (Starboard / Point-7) enjoying competing on home waters: “Yesterday we started off a memorable event - a PWA World Cup in Denmark. It’s simply amazing to be racing all the guys I normally compete with here in local grounds.  The first few days was spent getting our Danish Point-7 team to kick ass in the long distance which was the original "WaterZ" event here in Hvide Sande, and from yesterday, it’s been all about racing. With a crazy rainy forecast, we managed to complete one elimination round. I had to start in the very first heat because of my low seeding, but I managed to get through to the quarterfinals, where I was looking good to advance, but my boom clipped the last gybe buoy and I slowed down, which resulted in me being overtaken by two guys.. Will try to avoid that from now on. 3 more days to go, and some good winds coming during this week. Its damn great to be back and racing at home!” Oda Johanne (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) happy with a bright start with plenty of potential for even better: “Great racing yesterday here in Hvide Sande, Denmark! A huge battle with 31 girls. So far I'm in 9th place. Yesterday I finished second in the first round and unfortunately I missed out on the winners’ final by one place after struggling to get planing after a great start in the semifinal, but I’m still glad to finish 2nd place in the losers’ final! More racing tomorrow!”  The forecast looks excellent for tomorrow with the promise of 15-20 knot southwesterly winds for the majority of the day, which should ensure an action packed day three. The sailors will meet again tomorrow morning at 9am for the skippers’ meeting with the action commencing from 9:30am (GMT+2).
