Die Entscheidung, den Slalom X am achten Tag des 2024 Fuerteventura PWA World Cups zu fahren, wurde mehr als gerechtfertigt, denn Sotavento bot die bisher härtesten Bedingungen des Events. Die ersten beiden Renntage waren relativ flach für Fuerteventura, aber heute begann eine neue, kurzzeitige Dünung durch den Kurs zu laufen. Diese Dünung in Kombination mit dem Kabbelwasser bedeutete, dass das Surfen in einer geraden Linie tückisch war, während das Halsen und der Versuch, über ein Hindernis zu springen, bei Windböen von über 40 Knoten am Abend gelinde gesagt schwierig war.
Slalom X Women’s
Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) was simply in a league of her own on the first day of Slalom X and the Aruban gem, who added world title No.23 to her name earlier in the week after winning the Freestyle, surely has one hand on world title No.24 after winning all five eliminations today, which means she boasts a perfect record of 2.8 points, while she currently discards a bullet. Even after starting Elimination 5 way off the pace, Offringa was still able to reel in Justine Lemeteyer (FMX Racing / S2Maui) by the exit of the third gybe to complete a perfect day.
Lemeteyer was the only sailor to put Offringa under any serious pressure, but even after pinging a perfectly timed start in Elimination 5, she couldn’t quite hold off Offringa as the Aruban gradually wore her down. Lemeteyer enjoyed a solid day though after recovering from an over early in the opening race by then recording three second places and a third, which sees her sat in second place in the overnight rankings, while also bringing her into the vice-world champion conversation as she is currently tied on 19,900 points with Marion Mortefon (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails) and Jenna Gibson (Duotone Windsurfing) in the overall ranking.
Mortefon trails Lemeteyer by just two points after recording a second and three third places, while she currently discards a seventh from Elimination 4. Gibson is then a further five points behind Lemeteyer. The Brit started well with a solid second place, but could then only muster seventh and eighth place finishes in the next two races, before finishing the day strongly again with a third and a fourth, which means if she can keep that run going, then she’ll have the potential to discard that seventh place once Elimination 7 is completed.
The top five is currently completed by Femke van der Veen (Starboard / Severne Sails), but Marine Hunter (Tribal Windsurfing) is only one point behind her in sixth, while Oda Brødholt (Starboard / Severne Sails) is just a point further back as well.
Elsewhere, 14-year-old Bobbi-Lynn de Jong (Starboard) deserves a shout out after managing to record a fifth and a sixth from the five races completed in such treacherous conditions and she looks to be a star for the future in the making.
Men’s
Pierre Mortefon (FMX Racing / Phantom Sails) heads up the event rankings at the end of the first day of Slalom X after earning a bullet in the last race of the day, having started with a second and a fourth. When the conditions became really hardcore in Elimination 3, the Frenchman truly shone, just as he did in Pozo and he remains on course to secure the first ever Slalom X world title.
However, Mortefon isn’t simply going to have things his own way as Taty Frans (Future Fly / Point-7), who enjoyed a great day with a second and two third places from the opening three races, only trails Mortefon by 1.3 points. The Bonairean has long been wanting fin only slalom events and today he showed why by proving that he remains one of the best fin racers in the world.
Meanwhile, Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Severne Sails) recovered brilliantly from a semifinal exit in the first elimination to finish the day ranked third. The Italian was prominently placed entering the first gybe of the opening semifinal, but then nose dived to all but end his chances of qualifying. Iachino then secured a clinical bullet in the next race, before staging a great comeback in Elimination 3. The 34-year-old made a poor start, but still managed to blitz his way back into second place, which could yet have major implications, not only for the event title race, but for the world title race too, as he is Mortefon’s main danger. Iachino stands to gain the most from the completion of Elimination 4 as he could potentially discard the ninth place from the opener, which would put him in a powerful position to possibly challenge for pole position. Iachino openly admitted that the hardcore conditions, particularly in Elimination 3, are the essence of slalom for him and that was very evident today as he shone and he’ll be praying for similar conditions tomorrow.
Jordy Vonk (Duotone Windsurfing) produced a very consistent day of sailing as the 31-year-old qualified for all three winners’ finals without really landing a killer blow. From the three races completed the flying Dutchman recorded a third and sixth and a seventh, which sees him ranked fourth.
Besides, Mortefon, Frans and Vonk, Ingmar Daldorf (Tabou / GA Sails) is the only sailor to have qualified for every winners’ final, meaning he currently completes the top five. However, just 6 points separate him, Nico Prien (JP / NeilPryde), Lohan Jules (Future Fly / S2Maui) and Amado Vrieswijk (Future Fly / Severne Sails) - who currently occupy sixth, seventh and eighth.
Bruno Martini (JP / NeilPryde) consistently looked like one of the quickest sailors on the course throughout the day, so may be disappointed to have only booked his place in the top eight once. The Italian was leading the last semifinal, but went down hard on the speed run when clocking about 36 knots. Martini signed off the day by winning the b-final to secure ninth place, while he could gain some significant ground after the completion of Elimination 4 as he currently counts a sixteenth.
Another sailor who could benefit greatly from the discard is Maciek Rutkowski (NeilPryde). The Pole had looked well in tune with the conditions in the opening two races - which saw him earn a fourth and a sixth - but then suffered a surprise quarterfinal exit in Elimination 3, which sees him drop to tenth in the overnight rankings.
Cedric Bordes (Severne Sails) endured two massive crashes yesterday when foiling, but despite being in quite some pain, the Frenchman managed to put that to the back of his mind as he claimed a superb bullet in the opening race of the day. Bordes was under serious pressure from Mortefon the entire way round the course, but valiantly held him off to claim his first race victory in Slalom X. Unfortunately, things then went downhill after that with two quarterfinal exits, so he ends the opening day ranked 14th.
The forecast for Friday still looks solidly windy, but it is likely that is will be quite a bit less windy than today, which most sailors will probably breathe a sigh of relief about. WindGuru is currently predicting winds of 18-24 knots, so it is likely that we will see another day of Slalom X as Saturday looks lighter. The sailors will meet at 10am (GMT+1) for the skippers’ meeting with the action commencing from 11am onwards.

Fuerteventura liefert knallharte Slalom X Bedingungen, aber zwei bekannte Gesichter stehen am Ende des ersten Tages an der Spitze der Rangliste in Form von Sarah-Quita Offringa und Pierre Mortefon.

Am siebten Tag des 2024 Fuerteventura PWA World Cups kehrten die berüchtigten Winde von Fuerteventura zurück und sorgten für einen spannenden Renntag. Fünf Eliminations für die Damen und drei Eliminations für die Herren wurden bei Windböen von über 35 Knoten am Ende des Nachmittags ausgetragen. Am Ende des zweiten Renntages ist der Abstand zwischen den Führenden der Damen- und Herrenfleet im Foil-Slalom fast unüberwindbar, aber nach dem aktuellen Stand der Dinge führen Justine Lemeteyer (FMX Racing / S2Maui) und Daniele Benedetti (FMX Racing / Challenger Sails) die Übernacht-Rangliste an.
Foil Slalom Women’s
Justine Lemeteyer started the day behind overnight leader, Marion Mortefon (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils) by 5.6 points, however, after a further 5 races today the reigning Slalom vice-world champion leapfrogs Mortefon to lead the event after sailing out of her skin today. Lemeteyer signed off yesterday by winning the last elimination of the day and she continued her rich vein of form today as she rattled off four bullets from the five races completed, while in Elimination 7 she did unbelievably well to fight her way back into third place, which could yet prove pivotal as if she had finished fourth, she wouldn’t currently be leading the event, such are the minuscule margins at the top of the rankings. Lemeteyer closes the day with a 0.3 of a point lead over Mortefon. Lemeteyer’s top speed was the real killer today, which she used to her maximum disposal, as she set a new personal best on the foil of 31 knots.
Mortefon was almost unstoppable on the opening day of racing and she sailed well again today, but she could’t quite get the better of Lemeteyer in the significantly stronger winds. The 33-year-old still recorded an excellent set of results today consisting of a bullet, three thirds and a fourth, which she currently discards - and there is very much all still to play for over the remaining days of the contest.
Mortefon and Lemeteyer have dominated the Foil Slalom thus far and it looks as though it will be a two horse race between them as Blanca Alabau (Starboard / Severne Sails), who is in a clear third place, is 10.2 points behind Morton and 10.5 points behind Lemeteyer. Alabau has been extremely consistent through the opening nine eliminations, only finishing outside the top three once, but hasn’t managed to land that killer bullet to keep herself in contention for the event title.
Elsewhere, Alisa Engelmann (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils), who only started windsurfing two or three years ago, gains a few places from the overnight rankings, which sees the German rise from seventh to fourth in the overalls. Engelmann impressed with her gybing as she continually gained an advantage through the turns, while in her debut event, she never finished outside the top five today, while recording a second and a third place. The top five is currently completed by Maya Morris (Future Fly), but only one point separates the Israeli and Jenna Gibson (Duotone Windsurfing / F4 Foils), who enjoyed a much better second day.
Men’s Mover of the Day
Pierre Mortefon (Phantom / Phantom Sails / Phantom Foils) started the day ranked just outside of the overall top ten - 11th - after an indifferent start in yesterday’s lighter winds, but the Frenchman hit back with a vengeance today to gain nine places from the overnight rankings, which sees the 35-year-old finish the day tied on 9.4 points with overnight leader - Daniele Benedetti (FMX Racing / Challenger Sails).
Mortefon rattled off back-to-back bullets in Elimination 3 and 4 - the second of which required a textbook gybe at the last to deny Alexis Mathis (Tabou / GA Sails) a maiden bullet - to briefly lead the event by 2.3 points, but Benedetti was able to strike back to regain the event lead on countback after the Italian claimed his second bullet of the event in Elimination 5 to keep himself on track to challenge for a maiden event victory on the World Tour. Benedetti is also now the only sailor to be able to boast a 100% qualifying record for winners’ finals!
However, fellow Italian, Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Severne Sails), is right on the heels of the top two, and just 1.3 points separate himself, Benedetti and Mortefon at the close of proceedings, so there is all still to play for. Iachino is able to discard an eleventh place from yesterday’s second elimination after recording an extremely consistent set of results today with a second and two fourth places.
Like Mortefon, Enrico Marotti (JP / NeilPryde) endured a topsy turvy day yesterday, but the Croatian bounced back today to rise from twelfth into fourth place after qualifying for every winners’ final on the second day of racing. However, things could’ve been even better for Marotti as he led the fourth elimination heading into the first gybe, but unfortunately breached the fin, which saw him eventually finish sixth in that particular race, while he crashed over the start line in the winners’ final of Elimination 5.
Alexis Mathis is another sailor to have shot up the rankings at the end of the second day of racing. The Frenchman started the day in fourteenth, but he flies into fifth place after the completion of Elimination 5. As previously mentioned, the 22-year-old, was on the verge of securing a maiden bullet on the World Tour only to be denied by Mortefon at the last.
Having started the day in third place, Amado Vrieswijk (Future Fly / Severne Sails / Z-Foils) - slips three places to sixth. The Bonairean completed a hat-trick of sorts he probably didn’t particularly desire as he won three b-finals in a row to secure ninth place in Eliminations 2-4, which is no mean feat, but having started to the event so strongly, and last year, he would’ve certainly held higher aspirations. The 30-year-old qualified for his second winners’ final of the week in Elimination 5, but realistically he now only harbours outside hopes of a podium finish here.
Like Vrieswijk, Michele Becker (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils) loses a bit of ground from the overnight rankings - 6th to 8th. The German has qualified for the top eight on four out of five occasions thus far as he continues to show remarkable consistency, however, the German, who is renowned for his excellent gybing, dropped off the foil at crucial moments today, which cost him on a couple of occasions.
The top ten is currently completed by; Nico Prien (JP / NeilPryde), who rises from 16th to eighth, Thomas Goyard (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils), who moves into the top 10 - 9th - after qualifying for two winners’ finals today, while winning the b-final in Elimination 5, and Jordy Vonk (Duotone Windsurfing), who slides five places from fifth to tenth.
Unfortunately, yesterday’s high flyers, Noah Vinther (JP / NeilPryde) and Fabian Wolf (Starboard / Severne Sails), who started proceedings in second and eighth place, both lose their place in the current top ten - finishing the day ranked 13th and 12th respectively - as the usual suspects start to make their greater consistency count and steadily rise up the rankings.
The forecast for Thursday looks the windiest of the remaining three days of the event, so it’s highly likely that we will see Foil Slalom replaced by the fins with Slalom X, however, that result will be made in the morning. The sailors will meet again at 10am (GMT+1) tomorrow morning with a first possible start at 11am.

The German has qualified for the top eight on four out of five occasions thus far as he continues to show remarkable consistency, however, the German, who is renowned for his excellent gybing, dropped off the foil at crucial moments today, which cost him on a couple of occasions.
The top ten is currently completed by; Nico Prien (JP / NeilPryde), who rises from 16th to eighth, Thomas Goyard (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils), who moves into the top 10 - 9th - after qualifying for two winners’ finals today, while winning the b-final in Elimination 5, and Jordy Vonk (Duotone Windsurfing), who slides five places from fifth to tenth.
Unfortunately, yesterday’s high flyers, Noah Vinther (JP / NeilPryde) and Fabian Wolf (Starboard / Severne Sails), who started proceedings in second and eighth place, both lose their place in the current top ten - finishing the day ranked 13th and 12th respectively - as the usual suspects start to make their greater consistency count and steadily rise up the rankings.
The forecast for Thursday looks the windiest of the remaining three days of the event, so it’s highly likely that we will see Foil Slalom replaced by the fins with Slalom X, however, that result will be made in the morning. The sailors will meet again at 10am (GMT+1) tomorrow morning with a first possible start at 11am.

Der sechste Tag des 2024 Fuerteventura PWA World Cups erwies sich als ein weiterer „Slow Burner“, da der Wind kurz vor dem ursprünglich geplanten Start um die Mittagszeit abflaute, was zu einer mehrstündigen Verzögerung führte, bis die Brise mit 8-15 Knoten zurückkehrte. Nach Beendigung des ersten Männerrennens und der ersten beiden Frauenrennen nahm der Wind wieder ab, und es sah so aus, als ob es das für diesen Tag gewesen wäre, aber die Brise kehrte bald zurück und sorgte für die besten Rennbedingungen des Tages mit rund 20 Knoten Wind. Am Ende des ersten Tages führen Marion Mortefon (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils) und Daniele Benedetti (FMX Racing / Challenger Sails) die Rangliste des Events an.
Foil Slalom Women’s
Marion Mortefon enjoyed a near perfect opening day as the former two-time world champion made a flying to proceedings by rattling off a superb hat-trick before finishing second in the fourth elimination - which she currently discards. Mortefon looks in ominous form as it looked as though she has a bit of extra speed up her sleeve when required. The 32-year-old ends the day with a clear lead as she currently counts a perfect score of 2.1 points.
Justine Lemeteyer (FMX Racing / S2Maui) is currently Mortefon’s closest rival on 7.7 points and you could see how much it meant to her that she claimed the final bullet of the day to keep herself in contention. The current vice-world champion started off strongly with a solid second place, but then recorded a fifth and eleventh to find herself in a spot of bother. That bullet could yet prove pivotal later on in the week.
Reigning world champion - Blanca Alabau (Starboard / Severne Sails) - was extremely consistent in the opening four eliminations with a second and a three third places, which sees her just 0.3 points behind Lemeteyer. Alabau was involved in a fierce battle for second place with Mortefon in Elimination 4, which saw the Spaniard produce a miraculous gybe at the third buoy through an almost non-existent gap, but Mortefon still prevailed as she stepped on the gas to close the door on Alabau.
Maya Morris (Future Fly) hasn’t experienced the easiest preparation leading into her debut on the World Tour after her equipment failed to arrive, but even so, she has made a bright start which sees her ranked fourth after the opening day.
Meanwhile, Bobbi-Lynn de Jong (Starboard / NeilPryde) completes the current top five, which is quite remarkable given the fact that she is just 14-years-old. The Bonairean’s best results today included a fifth in the opener before signing off with a fourth place.
Men’s
Daniele Benedetti (FMX Racing / Challenger Sails) finished last season by earning his maiden podium on the World Tour in Japan, and he hit the water flying today, so much so, that the Italian tops the rankings at the close of play. Benedetti looked in the zone throughout after opening his account with an excellent third place before going on to claim his second bullet on the World Tour in the second elimination, which means he holds a 5.3 point advantage at the top of the rankings.
Noah Vinther (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils) may have only made his debut on the World Tour last year, but the 20-year-old has quickly adapted to life on tour after claiming an impressive third and a sixth place today, which means he is currently ranked second in the overnight rankings.
Amado Vrieswijk (Future Fly / Severne Sails / Z-Foils) completes the current top three after the opening couple of races. In the opening winners’ final, Vrieswijk was involved in an intense battle against Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Severne Sails), which saw the lead change hands on multiple occasions. Eventually, Vrieswijk settled for second place in the opener, before the vice-world champion, who has won the last two events on the World Tour, got caught up in a racing altercation at the first mark in Elimination 2, which ultimately resulted in him being eliminated. Vrieswijk was still able to win the b-final for maximum damage control.Reigning world champion, Matteo Iachino, made the perfect start to his defence campaign as he gained the upper hand against Vrieswijk in Elimination 1 to secure the opening bullet of the season. At that point, it looked like the Iachino had a speed advantage as he seemingly waited to pick his moment to pass Vrieswijk. However, after a perfect first elimination, Iachino then missed out on the winners’ final of the next race after getting re-hooked in during the opening gybe, which left him with a deficit he couldn’t quite recover from as he missed out on a place in the top eight, after finishing in fifth. Iachino ends the day ranked in fourth, just 0.7 of a point behind Vrieswijk and two points behind Vinther.
Elsewhere, Jordy Vonk (Duotone Windsurfing) also qualified for one winners’ final and missed out on the other, which sees the 31-year-old ranked fifth at the end of day one, tied on 16 points with Michele Becker (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils), who asides from Benedetti and Vinther, is the only other sailor who boats a 100% qualifying record for the top eight - even after just the first two eliminations on what was quite a topsy turvy day for quite a few sailors.
The top ten is currently completed by Fabian Wolf (Starboard / Severne Sails) - 7th- who recorded a 13th and a seventh - Cedric Bordes (Severne Windsurfing) - 8th - who recovered from a quarterfinal exit in the first by finishing fourth in the next, William Huppert and Scotty Stallman (Tabou / GA Sails / F4 Foils), who finish ninth and tenth respectively after both recording two top sixteen results.
To further illustrate the topsy turvy nature of the day, Pierre Mortefon (Phantom / Phantom Sails / Phantom Foils) started the day with a solid fifth before suffering a quarterfinal exit, while Enrico Marotti (JP / NeilPryde) went from being dumped out in the quarterfinals of the opener before bouncing back with a second place in Elimination 2 to steady the ship, while Alexis Mathis (Tabou / GA Sails) and Nico Prien (JP / NeilPryde) also qualified for the second winners’ final, where they finished fifth and sixth, to both bounce back from quarterfinal exits in Elimination 1. At the close of play, the quartet find themselves ranked 11th, 12th, 14th, and 16th respectively.
Maciek Rutkowski (NeilPryde) didn’t enjoy much luck on the opening day as he was knocked out in the semifinal of Elimination 1, followed by the quarterfinals of the next, when prominently placed in both due to other sailors hampering him through gybes, which cost him dearly on both occasions. The Pole was still able win the b-final of Elimination 1, but finds himself ranked fifteenth at the end of day one and is under immediate pressure if still wants to try and earn a top result.
The forecast for tomorrow looks much more promising than today with the prospect of stronger winds on the horizon. The racers will meet again tomorrow morning at 10am (GMT+1) with a first possible start at 11am.

Sarah-Quita Offringa verteidigt erfolgreich ihren Titel in der Single Elimination und wird zum unglaublichen 15. Mal Freestyle-Weltmeisterin, während Lennart Neubauer durch das Double zurückkommt und das Rennen um den Weltmeistertitel bei den Männern anführt.
Der vorletzte Freestyle-Tag des 2024 Fuerteventura PWA World Cups begann mit einem etwas bizarren Start: Der Regen von gestern Abend hielt bis in den Morgen an, was zu dieser Jahreszeit sehr ungewöhnlich ist, und das bedeutete, dass der Wind, ähnlich wie am Samstag, anfangs leicht und unbeständig war. On the opening day, the competitors were left running for their smallest equipment as nuking winds and choppy waters greeted them, while to conclude this year’s contest they were left searching for their biggest gear, which provided a thorough all-round test of their freestyle abilities.
Freestyle Women’s
Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) finishes the fourth day of the 2024 Fuerteventura PWA World Cup with another world title to her name as the Aruban gem secured an incredible 15th Freestyle world crown - and 23rd overall - after producing a blend of sliding and power moves to see off the challenge of Oda Brødholt (Starboard / Severne Sails) in the final.
Things could yet get even better for Offringa as she will be vying for world title No.24 from day six onwards here as the 33-year-old will be also be competing in Slalom X and as things stand she leads the world title race having won the opener in Gran Canaria earlier this month.
Having produced a superb display against Maaike Huvermann (Severne / Severne Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) in Heat 34, Brødholt ensured that she would finish 2024 as the vice-world champion at worst as she successfully defended her second place from the single elimination. The Norwegian was understandably delighted upon hearing the news that she had secured her place in the overall top two for the first time since 2015, while it also vindicated her decision to warm up for the event in Dakhla, Morocco, beforehand. Against her nemesis, Brødholt shone as she produced a powerful display of sailing to deservedly gain the upper hand after landing a mixture of shakas, culos, air funnels and a regular kono.
Having finished fourth in the single elimination, Huvermann battled back to secure her place on the prestigious event and overall podium after firstly bringing Elena Dominick’s (Severne / Severne Sails) come back to an end, before exacting revenge against Lisa Kloster (MB Boards / Sailloft Hamburg) to advance into the top three. Neubauer looked equally as comfortable in the light winds as he did the nuking winds, so it seems the sky really is the limit for him and he no doubt has his sights set on capturing a maiden world title come the end of the year.
That’s not saying that that’s going to be easy though as the newly crowned champion of Fuerteventura was pushed all the way in the double elimination. Firstly by reigning world champion - Yentel Caers (JP / NeilPryde) - and then by Adrien Bosson (Duotone Windsurfing / Maui Ultra Fins) in the Super Final, both of which Neubauer would ultimately win by about a point, but crucially when he needed it, as he did against Caers, he produced the goods to crucially find a way to win.
Bosson starts the year with a second place, but he was right on the cusp of securing a great victory. The Frenchman wasn’t at his best during the opening final, but in the super final, the 2022 world champion really upped his game and only missed out on the top spot on the podium due to Neubauer landing a late double culo and kabikuchi.
Caers, meanwhile, missed out by the same narrow fate as he lost out on 35.1 points compared to 36.1 points - such is the closeness in performance level between the very top guys. The margins are so fine, that even if a move is anything but textbook, that it could prove to be the difference to be advancing or ultimately being eliminated. Third place probably doesn’t represent the start the reigning world champion would have envisaged to his campaign, but such are the fine margins, that he’ll remain more than in contention heading into Sylt.

On the opening day, the competitors were left running for their smallest equipment as nuking winds and choppy waters greeted them, while to conclude this year’s contest they were left searching for their biggest gear, which provided a thorough all-round test of their freestyle abilities.
Freestyle Women’s
Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) finishes the fourth day of the 2024 Fuerteventura PWA World Cup with another world title to her name as the Aruban gem secured an incredible 15th Freestyle world crown - and 23rd overall - after producing a blend of sliding and power moves to see off the challenge of Oda Brødholt (Starboard / Severne Sails) in the final.
Things could yet get even better for Offringa as she will be vying for world title No.24 from day six onwards here as the 33-year-old will be also be competing in Slalom X and as things stand she leads the world title race having won the opener in Gran Canaria earlier this month.
Having produced a superb display against Maaike Huvermann (Severne / Severne Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) in Heat 34, Brødholt ensured that she would finish 2024 as the vice-world champion at worst as she successfully defended her second place from the single elimination. The Norwegian was understandably delighted upon hearing the news that she had secured her place in the overall top two for the first time since 2015, while it also vindicated her decision to warm up for the event in Dakhla, Morocco, beforehand. Against her nemesis, Brødholt shone as she produced a powerful display of sailing to deservedly gain the upper hand after landing a mixture of shakas, culos, air funnels and a regular kono.
Having finished fourth in the single elimination, Huvermann battled back to secure her place on the prestigious event and overall podium after firstly bringing Elena Dominick’s (Severne / Severne Sails) come back to an end, before exacting revenge against Lisa Kloster (MB Boards / Sailloft Hamburg) to advance into the top three. California Surf Cup Sylt geht erfolgreich zu Ende: Vincent Langer wird GWA Champion 2024.
Nach sechs Tagen ging heute die GWA Championship im Rahmen des California Surf Cups Sylt zu Ende. Der Kieler Vincent Langer (GER-1, Duotone) dominierte die bedeutendste nationale Windsurfveranstaltung in Deutschland und kann sich über die Titel in den Disziplinen Foiling, Fin Slalom und Overall freuen. Er siegte in den beiden Einzeldisziplinen und sicherte sich so auch konsequenterweise den Overalltitel vor Gunnar Asmussen (GER-2, Starboard, Severne) und Jonne Heimann (GER-107, Gunsails).
In der Disziplin Foiling platzierten sich Jonne Heimann und Koen Hessels (NED-88, Starboard, Severne) hinter Langer. Im Fin Slalom folgten Langer Gunnar Asmussen und Anton Richter (GER-6, JP, Neil Pryde).
An fünf der sechs Wettkampftage konnten im Rahmen des California Surf Cups Sylt offizielle Wettfahrten durchgeführt werden. Insgesamt konnten sieben Foiling Eliminationen und sieben Fin Slalom Eliminationen abgeschlossen werden. Beim Waveriding fehlten am Ende zwei Heats, um ein gültiges Ergebnis für die Herren zu erzielen. Bei den Damen konnte der Contest offiziell beendet werden. Hier siegte Nadja Jablonski (GER-221, Sailloft) vor Emma Miron (GER-508, Sailloft) und Frida Miron (GER-129, Sailloft).
Langer ist GWA Foiling Champion 2024
Vincent Langer startete zwar mit einem Frühstart im Finale der ersten Elimination in die Disziplin Foiling, dominierte das Teilnehmerfeld der Disziplin von dort an aber durchgängig. Er gewann mit einer weiteren Ausnahme, in der er Zweiter wurde, alle Wettfahrten. Am Ende siegte er so in fünf der insgesamt sieben Eliminationen und sicherte sich den Titel GWA Foiling Champion 2024 mit der Idealpunktzahl 0,0. Auf Platz zwei im Foiling folgt Jonne Heimann. Er war der Fahrer, der an Stelle des Titelträgers Langer besagte zwei Wettfahrten gewinnen konnte. Insbesondere konnte er sich über seinen Triumph bei der Auftaktwettfahrt freuen, die als Großer Preis der LVM Versicherung mit insgesamt 1.000,- Euro Preisgeld dotiert war. Mit seinen zwei Siegen und insgesamt 6,0 Punkten ist er der GWA Foiling Vice-Champion 2024. Der Niederländer Koen Hessels präsentierte sich stark auf der Nordsee vor dem Brandenburger Strand und sichert sich mit 18,0 Punkten den dritten Platz auf dem Podium der Disziplin Foiling. Extrem eng gestaltete sich der Kampf um Platz vier. Nach sieben Wettfahrten lagen hier der Flensburger Gunnar Asmussen und der Kieler Youngster Anton Richter mit 21,0 Punkten Kopf an Kopf. Im Tiebreak konnte sich Asmussen aber durchsetzen und erobert so Platz vier im Foiling vor Anton Richter.
Der Niederländer Koen Hessels führt auch die Youth U21 Wertung an. Auf den Plätzen Zwei und Drei folgen hier Leo Richter (GER-9, JP, Neil Pryde) und Keno Recke (GER-10, Patrik Windsurfing). In der Youth U19 Wertung liegt Anton Richter an der Spitze und triumphiert damit bis auf weiteres über Erik Wehkamp (GER-240, Duotone) und Jesse Richter (GER-180, Starboard, Sailloft). In der Junior U17 Wertung kann sich Paul Regber (GER-17, Starboard, Severne) weiterhin über eine exzellente GWA Championship freuen. Er liegt mit Platz 12 in der Gesamtwertung vor Jesper Mo Thomsen (GER-510, Tabou, GA Sails).
Langer auch im Fin Slalom vorne
In der Disziplin Fin Slalom fiel die Entscheidung erst am Finaltag. Im Laufe des Sonntags konnten noch einmal vier komplette Eliminationen gefahren werden. Auch im Fin Slalom triumphierte Langer und ist damit GWA Fin Slalom Champion 2024. Trotz insgesamt vier Laufsiegen von Langer blieb es hier aber bis zum Ende spannend. Bis zur letzten Wettfahrt hatte Anton Richter noch die Chance, Langer den Titel wegzuschnappen. Im finalen Schlagabtausch riskierte Anton Richter deshalb alles und vielleicht auch etwas zu viel. Denn auf der Zielgeraden hatte er einen Schleudersturz, der alle Titelhoffnungen von Richter zunichte machte. Der Flensburger Gunnar Asmussen nutzte die Gelegenheit und sicherte sich den Sieg in der finalen Wettfahrt. Langer genügte ein zweiter Platz in dieser Elimination, um auch in der Disziplin Fin Slalom den Titel zu erobern. Durch seinen Sturz rutschte Anton Richter auf den achten Platz in dieser Wettfahrt und somit auf den dritten Platz in der Disziplin Fin Slalom ab. Asmussen hingegen gelang es mit dem Sieg im Finalrennen, den Titel GWA Fin Slalom Vice Champion 2024 zu gewinnen.
Anton Richter ist mit seinem dritten Platz in der Gesamtwertung auch bester Youth U19 vor Erik Wehkamp und Jesse Richter. In der Altersstufe Youth U21 siegt mit Leo Richter der Ältere der beiden Richter Brüder. Auf Platz zwei folgt Keno Recke vor Felix Wehkamp (GER-247, Duotone). In der Overallwertung werden die Ergebnisse aller Disziplinen kombiniert, um den insgesamt besten Windsurfer zu ermitteln. Da die Disziplin Waveriding nicht abgeschlossen werden konnte, setzt sich das Overall Ergebnis aus den beiden Disziplinen Fin Slalom und Foiling zusammen. So geht Langer, der bereits beide Einzeldisziplinen gewinnen konnte, als Sieger der Overallwertung hervor. Mit zweimal Platz eins kommt er auf die Idealpunktzahl 2,0 und ist damit rechtmäßiger GWA Overall Champion 2024. Der Flensburger Gunnar Asmussen kann sich über den Titel GWA Overall Vice Champion freuen. Eng umkämpft war der dritte Platz Overall bei der GWA Championship. Anton Richter und Jonne Heimann lagen hier mit 8,0 Punkten Kopf an Kopf. Richter punktet mit Platz fünf im Foiling und Platz drei auf der Finne. Heimann kann auf Platz zwei im Foiling sowie Platz sechs auf der Finne zählen. Im Tiebreak setzt sich Heimann aufgrund des besseren Einzelergebnisses durch. Der Crash auf der Zielgeraden des letzten Fin Slalom Finales kostete Anton Richter so nicht nur den GWA Fin Slalom Titel, sondern auch den dritten Platz auf dem Podium der GWA Overall Championship. Leo Richter komplettiert die Top-5 Overall in der GWA Championship Wertung.
In der Youth U19 Overall Wertung liegt Anton Richter dafür auf Platz eins und deutlich vor den Zweit- und Drittplatzierten Erik Wehkamp und Jesse Richter. Leo Richter siegt in der Youth U21 Overall Wertung vor Keno Recke und dem Niederländer Koen Hessels. Der Youngster Paul Regber kann die Junior U17 Overall Wertung vor Jesper Mo Thomsen und Felix Rhode gewinnen.
Nach den Windsurfern kommen die Wingfoiler und SUPer
Der California Surf Cup war ein voller Erfolg. An fast allen Tagen gab es spektakuläre Action auf dem Wasser. Das perfekte Eventwetter lockte fast 100.000 Besucher an den Brandenburger Strand. Sei es, um die spektakulären Wettkämpfe der Windsurfer auf der Nordsee zu bewundern, um zu bummeln und zu schlemmen oder auch, um bei den abendlichen Surfpartys zu feiern, bis die Sonne am Horizont im Meer versinkt.
Mit dem Ende des California Surf Cups reist die Windsurf Elite vom Brandenburger Strand ab. Nächster Tourstopp des California Windsurf Cups ist das Finale vom 29. August bis zum 01. September in Heiligenhafen. In diesem Rahmen wird dann auch die GWA Youth & Junior Championship 2024 ausgetragen. In Westerland geht es aber direkt nahtlos weiter. Nach den Windsurfern übernehmen die Wingfoil Masters und die Sylt SUP Trophy das Eventgelände und sorgen so nahtlos weiter für spektakulären Funsport auf der Nordsee vor Sylt.

Der California Surf Cup war ein voller Erfolg. An fast allen Tagen gab es spektakuläre Action auf dem Wasser. Das perfekte Eventwetter lockte fast 100.000 Besucher an den Brandenburger Strand. Sei es, um die spektakulären Wettkämpfe der Windsurfer auf der Nordsee zu bewundern, um zu bummeln und zu schlemmen oder auch, um bei den abendlichen Surfpartys zu feiern, bis die Sonne am Horizont im Meer versinkt.
Mit dem Ende des California Surf Cups reist die Windsurf Elite vom Brandenburger Strand ab. Nächster Tourstopp des California Windsurf Cups ist das Finale vom 29. August bis zum 01. September in Heiligenhafen. In diesem Rahmen wird dann auch die GWA Youth & Junior Championship 2024 ausgetragen. In Westerland geht es aber direkt nahtlos weiter. Nach den Windsurfern übernehmen die Wingfoil Masters und die Sylt SUP Trophy das Eventgelände und sorgen so nahtlos weiter für spektakulären Funsport auf der Nordsee vor Sylt.

Nur die fünf besten Frauen und die sechs besten Männer sind nach einem weiteren Nachmittag mit hektischem Freestyle, der mehrere knappe Entscheidungen mit sich brachte, noch im Rennen.
Der dritte Tag des 2024 Fuerteventura PWA World Cups erforderte ein wenig Wartezeit, da der Wind am Vormittag eher leicht und böig war. Um 14:15 Uhr Ortszeit hatten sich die Bedingungen jedoch soweit gebessert, dass die Wettkämpfe wieder aufgenommen werden konnten und am Ende des Tages waren nur noch die fünf besten Frauen und sechs besten Männer im Rennen um den diesjährigen Weltmeistertitel. Heute war der Wind schwächer als an den ersten beiden Tagen, aber die Bedingungen waren wohl die besten bisher. Einige verspielte Kicker auf der Innenseite boten den weltbesten Freestylern ideale Rampen, um ihr Können in der Luft zu zeigen.
Freestyle Women’s
Lina Schmied (AUT | GUNSAILS) and Elena Dominick (GER | Severne / Severne Sails) fought their way back through the opening round of the double to setup a battle for fifth and sixth place against each other after defeating Bijou Shahmirian (Starboard / Severne Sails) and Marine Hunter (KA Sail), respectively. In Heat 31, Germany’s Dominick got the better of her Austrian rival to setup a tie tomorrow against Maaike Huvermann (Severne / Severne Sails / Maui Ultra Fins), who herself will be looking to mount a comeback having finished fourth in the single elimination.
Men’s
Youp Schmit (Tabou / GA Sails) brought Steven Van Broeckhoven’s (Starboard / GUNSAILS) comeback through the double elimination to an end in Heat 28a. The Belgian, who finished fourth overall in 2023, had started to gather a bit of momentum after firstly dispatching of George Grisley (Duotone Windsurfing), before winning a close tussle against Kiri Thode (Future Fly / GUNSAILS) to setup a dual against Schmit. The Bonairean sailed an extremely strong starboard tack heat - consisting of an immaculate double culo, a kabikuchi and a skopu, but both sailors struggled slightly on port tack, particularly Van Broeckhoven, who was left to rue counting a 2.8 forward loop as he was eliminated by just 2.2 points.
Antony Ruenes (Tabou / GA Sails) produced the highest scoring heat of the day, at that stage, to also halt former world champion, Amado Vrieswijk’s (Future Fly / Severne Sails) comeback through the double elimination. The Frenchman earned 37 points after producing a near faultless display with the best of a bunch of impressive moves being an exquisite pasko and a technical air funnel burner, which both earned the same scores. Vrieswijk was a little unlucky to have met an on fire Ruenes as the Bonairean’s tally of 35.5 points was the second highest scoring heat of the day at that point.
Ruenes’ victory in Heat 28b setup a battle between himself and Schmit, but after the fireworks in the previous heat unfortunately the wind didn’t really co-operate in Heat 30a, so it proved to be somewhat of an anticlimax with Ruenes failing to complete his scoresheet, while Schmit managed to do what was required to advance.
The 29-year-old will now face Balz Müller (Severne / Severne Sails) in the battle for fifth and sixth place after the Swiss-man came out on top of incredibly close heat against Jacopo Testa (WeOne / Point-7 / AL360). Come the end of their 8-minute battle, just half a point separated the two freestyle wizards, but crucially the decision went in the favour of Müller as Testa was ultimately made to pay the heavy price for a somewhat slow start to Heat 30b.
In his previous heat against Antoine Albert (Goya Windsurfing), Testa had set the highest scoring heat of the day - 37.5 points - after producing an impeccable display of sailing, wowing the judges with air kabikuchis and skopus, as well as a massive spock culo. Unfortunately though, Testa couldn’t quite replicate that level of performance against Müller - meaning he finishes in joint seventh for the contest alongside Ruenes.
While Vrieswijk may have been disappointed to have missed out against Ruenes, the Bonairean also rode his luck slightly as he needed a pasko in the dying seconds against U20 Youth world champion - Takumi Moriya (Severne / Severne Sails), who also sailed a great heat - to book his place in the top 10 - and his focus will now shift to the racing as he will compete in both Slalom X and Foil Slalom. Vrieswijk finishes this year’s Freestyle in Fuete in joint 9th alongside fellow Bonairean Kiri Thode, France’s Nicolas Akgazciyan (JP / NeilPryde) and New Caledonia’s Antoine Albert (Goya Windsurfing), who earlier in the day pulled off a superb comeback against Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo (WeOne / GUNSAILS) as he produced an unbelievable finish to Heat 27b to turn the heat on its head and bring the 9-time world champions comeback to an end after landing an air chachoo, a bongka, an air funnel into burner and a kabikuchi in quick succession.
The forecast for Sunday looks a little bit lighter on paper again, but with a little bit of luck, and with only a couple of hours of the contest remaining, we should hopefully see the conclusion of the double eliminations. The freestyle fleets will meet again at 11am (GMT+1) tomorrow morning for the skippers’ meeting with the action commencing from 11:30am onwards. Make sure you tune in to see whether current event leaders Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) and Adrien Bosson (Duotone Windsurfing / Maui Ultra Fins) can successfully defend their single elimination crowns, or if one of their rivals can mount a comeback to deny them at the last.

Adrien Bosson besiegt Lennart Neubauer in den letzten Sekunden des Single Elimination Finales und führt das Event nach einem unglaublich engen Kampf an
Am zweiten Tag des 2024 Fuerteventura PWA World Cups wurde die Freestyle Single Elimination der Herren bei 20-30 Knoten Wind ausgetragen, wobei die Windstärke je nach Bewölkung schwankte. Insgesamt waren die Bedingungen wahrscheinlich einfacher als gestern, mit etwas flacheren Bedingungen am Morgen, bevor am Nachmittag eine kleine Dünung einsetzte, die ein paar Stuntrampen auf der Innenseite bot. Nach einem weiteren vollen Tag Freestyle führt Adrien Bosson (Duotone Windsurfing / Maui Ultra Fins) die Rangliste des Events an, nachdem er sich im Finale knapp gegen Lennart Neubauer (Starboard / Severne Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) durchgesetzt hat.
Freestyle Men’s
Adrien Bosson (Duotone Windsurfing / Maui Ultra Fins) saved his best until last as he posted his highest scoring heat of the single elimination in the winners’ final against Lennart Neubauer (Starboard / Severne Sails / Maui Ultra Fins). The Frenchman looked to be heading for defeat heading into the final minute as he was missing a move on port tack, but in the dying seconds the 2022 Freestyle world champion pulled off a culo, which was just enough to turn the tie in his favour as he pipped his Greek opponent to the top spot on the podium in the single elimination by 0.7 of a point. Bosson staged a great comeback which was triggered by a bongka, which received cheers on the beach, before going on to stomp a burner into burner and a no-handed burner. Bosson also won the single elimination here last year, so he’ll be even more determined to hang on to the first place this time around in the double.
Up until the final, Neubauer had been the clear standout sailor with the current vice-world champion breaking the 40 point barrier in his round of 16 heat and in the semifinals as well. In fact, the 20-year-old remains the only sailor to have broken that barrier, but fell agonisingly short in the final. Throughout the opening two days, Neubauer has been extremely impressive - barely putting a foot wrong while advancing his way into the final with an array of spock into double culos, gozzada burners, shifties and flaka into ponches. Neubauer seemed a little dejected after the final, but can now focus all of his attention on a comeback in the double elimination.
Reigning world champion, Yentel Caers (JP / NeilPryde) is another sailor who will be plotting his comeback through the double, and if history is anything to go by, then the Belgian could do just that as he also finished third here last year in the single elimination before going on to claim his first victory on the World Tour. Caers was going blow-for-blow with Neubauer in the semifinals, but ultimately just lost out, but he was able to put that disappointment behind him to defeat his teammate - Sam Esteve (JP / NeilPryde) - in the battle for third and fourth place in the single elimination.
Sam Esteve claimed impressive victories against Steven Van Broeckhoven (Starboard / GUNSAILS) and Jacopo Testa (WeOne / Point-7 / AL360) to deservedly book his spot in the semifinals, but couldn’t quite replicate that form against Bosson in Heat 15a. Fin Slalom und Foiling Action beim California Surf Cup Sylt: Vincent Langer dominiert GWA Championship.
Auch am vierten Tag in Folge gab es Windsurf Action beim California Surf Cup auf Sylt. Am Vormittag konnten bei perfekten Bedingungen zwei komplette Slalomeliminationen auf der Finne gefahren werden. Danach wurden bei leichterem Wind noch zwei weitere Eliminationen in der Disziplin Foiling absolviert. Der Kieler Vincent Langer (GER-1, Duotone) ist der klare Tagessieger bei dem Mega Event am Brandenburger Strand. Er konnte alle vier Wettfahrten gewinnen und liegt so vor dem Abschlusswochenende in beiden Disziplinen auf Titelkurs.
Am Morgen wurde die Windsurf Elite von Regenschauern aber dafür gutem Wind willkommen geheißen. Bei etwa 20 Knoten Wind fiel die Entscheidung konsequent auf einen Start mit der Disziplin Fin Slalom. Vincent Langer nutzte die Chance, sein Faux Pas vom Vortag auszugleichen, als er nach einem schlechten Start im Manövergetümmel stecken blieb und so die erste Slalomelimination der GWA Championship nur als sechster beendete. Dieses Mal lief für Langer alles nach Plan. Nach einem guten Start konnte er das Feld von der Spitze her kontrollieren und sicherte sich so seinen ersten Laufsieg vor dem Vortagessieger Gunnar Asmussen (GER-2, Starboard, Severne) aus Flensburg. Auf Platz drei folgte der Kieler Youngster Anton Richter (GER-6, JP, Neil Pryde), auf der Vier Justus Schott (GER-29, Duotone) und Jonne Heimann (GER-107, JP, Gun Sails) komplettiert die Top5.
Direkt im Anschluss ging es „back to back“ mit einer zweiten Fin Slalom Elimination weiter. Auch dieses Mal ließ der amtierende GWA Fin Slalom Champion Vincent Langer nichts anbrennen und stellte mit dem zweiten Sieg in der dritten Wettfahrt die Weichen in Richtung Titelverteidigung. Dieses Mal gelang Anton Richter sogar ein zweiter Platz vor Asmussen. Mit Leo Richter (GER-9, JP, Neil Pryde) schaffte auch der zweite Richter-Bruder den Sprung in die Top5, die von Florian Bandel (GER-11, FMX, Point-7) komplettiert werden.
Im Anschluss drehte der Wind und nahm ab. Die Regattaleitung passte den Kurs an und entschied die Disziplin zu wechseln. Nun kamen die Foiler zum Zuge. Für Vincent Langer spielte dies keine Rolle. Er zeigte auch auf den fliegenden Boards, dass er aktuell der Maßstab ist, an dem sich seine Konkurrenten messen müssen. Mit überlegenden Speed gewann er auch diese Foiling Elimination. Auch dieses Mal war der Flensburger Gunnar Asmussen dicht dran. Mit Platz zwei wahrte er seine Chancen auf eine Podiumsplatzierung bei der GWA Championship. Im Kampf um den Titel möchte aber vor allem Jonne Heimann noch ein Wörtchen mitreden, der sich mit Platz drei weiterhin leistungsstark präsentierte. Der Neumünsteraner Alexander Neubert (GER-294, Sailloft) spulte weiter seine konstant starke Leistung ab und sicherte sich Platz vier vor Leo Richter.
Die GWA Championship beim California Surf Cup auf Sylt verläuft bisher extrem erfolgreich. An jedem der vier Wettkampftage konnten offizielle Wettbewerbe ausgetragen werden und mit insgesamt sieben kompletten Foil Eliminationen, drei Fin Slalom Wettbewerben und einem fast kompletten Wave Contest gab es ein intensives sportliches Programm für die Athleten und die Besucher. In der Disziplin Foiling führt nach sieben Wettfahrten bei zwei Streichern mittlerweile klar Vincent Langer mit der Idealpunktzahl 0,0. Der Topfavorit kann sich berechtigte Hoffnungen auf eine Titelverteidigung machen. Auf dem zweiten Platz im Foiling folgt Jonne Heimann mit 6,0 Punkten. Er ist der Einzige, der neben Langer Foiling Eliminationen bei der GWA Championship gewinnen konnte und auch der einzige, der realistische Chancen hat, Langer den Titel in der Disziplin Foiling noch streitig zu machen. Der Niederländer Koen Hessels (NED-88, Starboard, Severne) liegt mit 18,0 Punkten au Platz drei. Er führt damit aber ein kompaktes Verfolgerfeld an und muss in den kommenden Tagen fokussiert bleiben, wenn er den wichtigsten nationalen Windsurf Event auf einer Podiumsplatzierung abschließen möchte. Denkbar eng gestaltet sich der Kampf um Platz vier im Foiling. Der Flensburger Gunnar Asmussen und der Kieler Youngster Anton Richter liegen hier mit jeweils 21,0 Punkten punktgleich Kopf an Kopf. Im Tie Break kann Asmussen sich aber durchsetzen und verteidigt so bis auf weiteres den vierten Platz vor Anton Richter auf Platz 5.
Der Niederländer Koen Hessels führt auch die Youth U21 Wertung an. Auf den Plätzen Zwei und Drei folgen hier Leo Richter und Keno Recke (GER-10, Patrik Windsurfing). In der Youth U19 Wertung liegt Anton Richter an der Spitze und triumphiert damit bis auf weiteres über Erik Wehkamp (GER-240, Duotone) und Jesse Richter (GER-180, Starboard, Sailloft). In der Junior U17 Wertung kann sich Paul Regber weiterhin über eine exzellente GWA Championship freuen. Er liegt mit einem ausgezeichneten Platz 12 in der Gesamtwertung vor Jesper Mo Thomsen (GER-510, Tabou, GA Sails).
Im Fin Slalom gibt es nach drei Eliminationen den ersten Streicher. Vincent Langer profitiert hier besonders, weil er so seinen sechsten Platz aus der Eröffnungs-Elimination streichen kann. Er führt damit auch in dieser Disziplin mit der Idealpunktzahl 0,0. Hier sitzt ihm die Konkurrenz allerdings dichter im Nacken. Der Flensburger Gunnar Asmussen liegt nach einem Laufsieg und einem zweiten Platz mit 2,0 Punkten unmittelbar dahinter auf Platz 2 in der Veranstaltungswertung. Auch auf der Finne präsentiert sich Anton Richter stark. Mit zwei zweiten Plätzen kommt er auf 4,0 Punkte und belegt so aktuell den dritten Platz auf dem Podium. Diesen Platz würde ihm aber der Fin Slalom Experte Justus Schott gerne streitig machen. Mit 7,0 Punkten liegt dieser in Schlagdistanz. Zwei Punkte dahinter gibt es einen spannenden Zweikampf um die letzte Top-5 Platzierung. Leo Richter und Florian Bandel liegen hier mit 9,0 Punkten punktgleich Kopf an Kopf. Im Tiebreak gelingt es allerdings Leo Richter sich durchzusetzen und Bandel aus den Top5 zu verdrängen.
Für den Samstag sieht es für die Windsurfer nach einer wohlverdienten Wettkampfpause aus. Der extrem schwach prognostizierte Wind dürfte den Athleten ermöglichen, das Material zu flicken und die sich zu erholen, bevor für den Final-Sonntag noch einmal vielversprechende Bedingungen ankündigt sind. Der California Surf Cup Sylt läuft noch bis zum Sonntag. Dann werden um 17:00 Uhr die neuen GWA Champions 2024 gekürt.

Sarah-Quita Offringa übersteht einen knappen Sieg gegen Oda Brødholt und führt das Event nach der Single Elimination, während die Top-Favoriten der Männer die erste Runde unbeschadet überstehen.
Die 2024 Fuerteventura PWA World Cup hat mit einem explosiven Start begonnen, als die
Windsurfer am ersten Tag des Wettbewerbs bei 30 bis 35 Knoten auf das Wasser gingen.
In der Damenwertung gewann Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) als erste Führende des Events
knapp vor Oda Brødholt (Starboard / Severne Sails) im Finale der Single Elimination.
In der Zwischenzeit, griffen die Männer ins Geschehen ein, und bisher gab es keine Überraschungen in der ersten Runde die die Top-Favoriten alle unbeschadet überstanden.
Freestyle Women’s
Sarah-Quita Offringa set the highest scoring heat of the contest in her opening heat - 28.5 points - to send out a warning to her rivals as she sailed with her usual flow and pizzazz. In the final, Offringa wasn’t at her usual free flowing best as she made a number of uncharacteristic errors and with just a couple of minutes to go the Aruban still needed a move on port tack to complete her scoresheet. In the end Offringa was able to land a forward loop, which proved pivotal as she won the winners’ final against Oda Brødholt by just 0.4 of a point. Victory in the single elimination puts the Lady from Aruba on the cusp of an incredible 15th Freestyle world title, and if anyone wants to deny her, they are now going to have to beat her twice in the double.
Meanwhile, Brødholt will be delighted to have secured her place in the top two in the single elimination after producing a solid display of sailing in tricky conditions. The Norwegian also achieved the same feat last season, but will be determined to hold on to it this time round. Brødholt was able to gain the upper hand against her nemesis, Maaike Huvermann (Severne / Severne Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) in the semifinals after landing a combination of shuvit spocks, burners and skopus.
Having finished fourth overall in 2023, Lisa Kloster (MB Boards / Sailloft Hamburg) proved she possesses the ability to challenge for the podium and the 24-year-old was able to do just that today as she secured a fantastic third place in the single elimination. Kloster didn’t perform at her best in the semifinal against Offringa, but in the b-final against Huvermann everything clicked together as she claimed the victory by 0.7 of a point.
This wouldn’t have been the way Huvermann would’ve wanted to start the event, but the 26-year-old will be able to take heart from the fact that last year she also didn’t make a flying start and she quickly improved in the double elimination to claim second place, so don’t rule out a fight back yet - especially as her defeats were by narrow margins and on the whole she sailed at a decent level.
Men’s
In the opening men’s heat, Sam Esteve (JP / NeilPryde) comfortably dispatched of Nigel Hart (Future Fly / Point-7), while Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo (WeOne / GUNSAILS) faced a tough return to life on the World Tour as he was drawn against Belgian maestro - Steven Van Broeckhoven (Starboard / GUNSAILS). In the end it was Van Broeckhoven who would claim the victory, so it’s going to be a long way back through the double elimination if Gollito wants to make an impression here.
In Heat 2, Niclas Nebelung (Duotone Windsurfing / Maui Ultra Fins) looked to be in impressive form as the 26-year-old German posted the second highest scoring heat of the day to defeat Robin Van Linden (Severne / Severne Sails). Meanwhile, Jacopo Testa (WeOne / Point-7 / AL360) needed to produce a moment of magic to advance against Davy Scheffers (Tabou / GA Sails). With almost no time remaining the Italian landed an insane spock into kabikuchi, which was arguably the move of the day to pip Scheffers to a place in the round of 16.
Balz Müller (Severne / Severne Sails) wasn’t at his absolute best in his opening heat, but he still had enough in the locker to negotiate his way past Lucas Nebelung (JP / NeilPryde). On the other side of Heat 3, Amado Vrieswijk (Future Fly / Severne Sails) was able to defeat Yarden Meir (Goya Windsurfing) to also book his place in the next round.
Current U20 Freestyle World Champion - Takumi Moriya (Severne / Severne Sails) - made a proficient start to proceedings as he ended the hopes of Bodhi Kempen (Severne / Severne Sails), while on the other side of the heat, Adrien Bosson (Duotone Windsurfing / Maui Ultra Fins) made a confident start as he consigned Sebastian Gux (Tabou / GA Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) to defeat on his debut.
In Heat 5, Lennart Neubauer (Starboard / Severne Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) sent out a warning to his rivals as the young Greek posted the highest scoring heat of the day - 39.5 points. Neubauer was the only sailor to land a shifty, while he also landed excellent combos such as a spock into kono and a double burner. In the a-panel, Takuma Sugi (Tabou / GA Sails) came out on top against Tigo Kort (JP / NeilPryde).
Heat 6 saw the French duo of Nicolas Akgazciyan (JP / NeilPryde) and Antony Ruenes (Tabou / GA Sails), who finished third here last year, safely progress into the round of 16 as they dispatched of Nicolo Di Marco and Tim Gerdes (Severne / Severne Sails).
Heat 7b saw an extremely tight tussle between fellow Bonairean’s, Youp Schmit (Tabou / GA Sails) and Kiri Thode (Future Fly / GUNSAILS), who was making his come back. For the majority of the heat there was very little to separate them, but Schmit was crucially able to land a kabikuchi and a double culo late on to gain the upper hand, and more importantly, advance. On the a-side of the panel Antoine Albert (Goya Windsurfing) was able to end the hopes of Manolis Chrysopoulous (JP / NeilPryde).
The start of the event couldn’t have gone much worse for George Grisley (Duotone Windsurfing) as in the opening minute of his heat against Nil Bacon (PATRIK / PATRIK SAILS) the Brit snapped his rear footstrap while rotating through a ponch, which left him with little to no hope of advancing..That led to Bacon sailing for much of the heat by himself, so the Andorran obviously advanced. Meanwhile, in the last heat of the day, reigning world champion Yentel Caers (JP / NeilPryde) made no mistakes against Kango Iketeru (JP / NeilPryde) as the 29-year-old produced a powerful repertoire of manoeuvres to progress with the highlights being a double air culo and an air kabikuchi.
The forecast for Friday looks marginally less windy than today, but it should still be more than windy enough of the explosive freestyle to continue. The skippers’ meeting has been called for 10am (GMT+1) tomorrow morning with the action commencing from 10:30am onwards.

Current U20 Freestyle World Champion - Takumi Moriya (Severne / Severne Sails) - made a proficient start to proceedings as he ended the hopes of Bodhi Kempen (Severne / Severne Sails), while on the other side of the heat, Adrien Bosson (Duotone Windsurfing / Maui Ultra Fins) made a confident start as he consigned Sebastian Gux (Tabou / GA Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) to defeat on his debut.
In Heat 5, Lennart Neubauer (Starboard / Severne Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) sent out a warning to his rivals as the young Greek posted the highest scoring heat of the day - 39.5 points. Neubauer was the only sailor to land a shifty, while he also landed excellent combos such as a spock into kono and a double burner. In the a-panel, Takuma Sugi (Tabou / GA Sails) came out on top against Tigo Kort (JP / NeilPryde).
Heat 6 saw the French duo of Nicolas Akgazciyan (JP / NeilPryde) and Antony Ruenes (Tabou / GA Sails), who finished third here last year, safely progress into the round of 16 as they dispatched of Nicolo Di Marco and Tim Gerdes (Severne / Severne Sails).
Heat 7b saw an extremely tight tussle between fellow Bonairean’s, Youp Schmit (Tabou / GA Sails) and Kiri Thode (Future Fly / GUNSAILS), who was making his come back. For the majority of the heat there was very little to separate them, but Schmit was crucially able to land a kabikuchi and a double culo late on to gain the upper hand, and more importantly, advance. On the a-side of the panel Antoine Albert (Goya Windsurfing) was able to end the hopes of Manolis Chrysopoulous (JP / NeilPryde).
The start of the event couldn’t have gone much worse for George Grisley (Duotone Windsurfing) as in the opening minute of his heat against Nil Bacon (PATRIK / PATRIK SAILS) the Brit snapped his rear footstrap while rotating through a ponch, which left him with little to no hope of advancing..That led to Bacon sailing for much of the heat by himself, so the Andorran obviously advanced. Meanwhile, in the last heat of the day, reigning world champion Yentel Caers (JP / NeilPryde) made no mistakes against Kango Iketeru (JP / NeilPryde) as the 29-year-old produced a powerful repertoire of manoeuvres to progress with the highlights being a double air culo and an air kabikuchi.
The forecast for Friday looks marginally less windy than today, but it should still be more than windy enough of the explosive freestyle to continue. The skippers’ meeting has been called for 10am (GMT+1) tomorrow morning with the action commencing from 10:30am onwards.

California Surf Cup Sylt: Mehr Foilings und Asmussen siegt im Fin Slalom bei der GWA Championship.
Die Prognosen versprachen für den dritten Wettkampftag des California Surf Cup Sylt leichten Südwind, der im Laufe des Tages zunehmen sollte. Deshalb wurde mit der Disziplin Foiling gestartet. Bei guten Bedingungen konnten zwei komplette Elimiationen durchgeführt werden. Dabei siegten einmal Vincent Langer und einmal Jonne Heimann. Bei weiter zunehmendem Wind wurde die Entscheidung zum Disziplinwechsel getroffen. Bei dann jedoch kritischen Bedingungen konnte eine Fin Slalom Elimination durchgeführt werden. Hier siegte der Flensburger Gunnar Asmussen (GER-2, Starboard, Severne).
Die Disziplin Foil konnte plangemäß gestartet werden. Bei idealen Bedingungen von vier Windstärken sideshore von links sicherte sich Vincent Langer (GER-1, Duotone) seinen dritten Laufsieg im vierten Rennen der GWA Championship auf Sylt. Auf dem zweiten Platz folgte dessen härtester Konkurrent im Titelkampf, Jonne Heimann (GER-107, JP, Gun Sails), der damit weiterhin Tuchfühlung zur Spitze hielt. Der Niederländer Koen Hessels (NED-88, Starboard, Severne) sicherte sich Platz 3. Der Neumünsteraner Alexander Neubert (GER-294, Sailoft) konnte mit einem vierten Platz seine Podiumsambitionen verteidigen. Anton Richter (GER-6, JP, Neil Pryde) komplettierte die Top-5 in diesem Lauf.
In der zweiten Elimination kam es zum bisher spannendsten Finish der GWA Championship. Jonne Heimann führte diesen Laufe lange an. Aber Langer startete nach einem mittelmäßigen Start und einer unglücklichen Halse eine furiose Aufholjagd. Auf der Zielgeraden führte zwar weiterhin Heimann. Aber Langer versuchte nach der letzten Halse alles, um doch noch den Sieg in dieser Wettfahrt zu erobern. Im Speedduell auf dem letzten Schlag konnte Heimann eine hauchdünne Führung in Ziel setzten und sich so den zweiten Laufsieg auf der Nordsee vor dem Brandenburger Strand sichern. Langer musste in dieser Wettfahrt mit Platz 2 Vorlieb nehmen. Platz 3 ging abermals an den Niederländer Koen Hessels. Keno Recke (GER-10, Patrik Windsurfing) erzielte mit Platz 4 seine bisher beste Laufplatzierung bei der GWA Championship auf Sylt. Mit einem fünften Platz bewahrte sich Leo Richter (GER-9, JP, Neil Pryde) seine Chancen im Kampf um das Podium.
Aufgrund der guten Prognose und des zunehmenden Windes entschied sich die Regattaleitung dann, die Disziplin zu wechseln. Auch die Fin Slalom Fahrer sollten endlich zum Zuge kommen. Leider erwiesen sich Prognose und Windentwicklung als trügerisch. Anstatt sich weiter zu stabilisieren, wurde der Südwind im Laufe der Fin Slalom Elimination mehr und mehr löcherig. Die machte den Lauf zu einer Belastungsprobe für Fahrer und Regattaleitung. Überraschenderweise kam der eigentlich für seine Performance bei Starkwind legendäre Flensburger Gunnar Asmussen am besten mit den herausfordernden Bedingungen klar. In einem spannenden Dreikampf konnte der sich auf der Zielgeraden gegen den Fin Slalom Experten Justus Schott (GER-29, Patrik Duotone) und den Youngster Anton Richter durchsetzen. Überraschend stark zeigte sich Florian Bandel (GER-11, FMX Racing, Point-7) mit Platz 4. Die Top 5 im Fin Slalom werden von Leo Richter komplettiert. Da der Wind in der Folge weiter nachließ entsprechend die Laufplatzierungen auch der aktuellen Ergebnisliste in der der Disziplin Fin Slalom nach Wettfahrttag drei und einer Wettfahrt. Bester Youth U19 ist Anton Richter vor Erik Wehkamp (GER-24, Duotone) und Jesse Richter (GER-180, Starboard, Sailoft). In der Youth U21 Wertung führt Leo Richter vor Koen Hessels und Keno Recke. In der Junior U17 Wertung führt Jesper Mo Thomsen (GER-510, Tabou, GA Sails) vor Paul Regber (GER-17, Starboard, Severne).
In der Disziplin Foiling stehen am Ende von Tag drei bereits fünf komplette Eliminationen zu Buche. Bei fünf Wettfahrten kann jeder Fahrer seine schlechtesten beiden Ergebnisse streichen. So führt Vincent Langer hier immer noch mit der Idealpunktzahl 0,0, da er seinen zweiten Platz in der ersten Wettfahrt und den zehnten Platz nach seinem Frühstart im Finale der Eröffnungswettfahrt streichen kann. Auf Platz zwei folgt Jonne Heimann. Er ist der einzige, der neben Langer auch Laufsiege einfahren konnte. Mit zwei Siegen und einmal Platz 2 kommt er auf 2,0 Punkte und sitzt Langer damit unmittelbar im Nacken. Mit einem weiteren Sieg würde er aufschließen und hätte dann alle Chancen, GWA Foiling Champion 2024 zu werden. Mit schon deutlichem Abstand folgt der Niederländer Koen Hessels auf Platz 3. Seine konstant starke Leistung mit einem zweiten und zwei dritten Platzen sichert ihm 8,0 Punkte. Die Organisation des California Windsurf Cups hofft, dass zum Start weitere Eliminationen in der Disziplin Fin Slalom möglich sein werden. Später steht dann eventuell noch etwas Foiling auf dem Programm. Das Skippers Meeting ist für 9:30 und der erste Start für 10:00 Uhr angesetzt.
Der California Surf Cup Sylt läuft noch bis zum Sonntag am Brandenburger Strand. Dann werden bei der Siegerehrung um 17:00 Uhr die neuen GWA Champions gekürt. Nach einem Pausentag werden dann ab Dienstag, 30. Juli die Wingfoiler die Nordsee vor Sylt übernehmen und an gleicher Stelle die Open German Championships in der Disziplin Wingfoil Wave sowie weitere Wettbewerbe im Slalom und Best Trick Freestyle im Rahmen der California Wingfoil Masters austragen.

Waveriding an Tag 2 bei der GWA Championship auf Sylt.
Seit Dienstag läuft die GWA Championship im Rahmen des California Windsurf Cups auf Sylt. Nachdem am Eröffnungstag die Foiler mit drei kompletten Eliminationen auf ihre Kosten kamen, schlug an Tag zwei die Stunde der Waverider. Nachdem am Vortag Wavealarm gegeben worden war, kamen 18 der besten Waver Deutschlands für das zweite Waveriding der deutschen Spitzenserie in der Saison 2024 an den Brandenburger Strand.
Leider blieb der Wind den ganzen Tag am unteren Limit, sodass die Wave-Elimiantion eine harte Arbeit für die Regattacrew und auch die Rider auf dem Wasser war. Trotz mehrerer Abbrüche aufgrund des schwachen Windes gelang es, die Elimination bis zum zweiten Halbfinale durchzuführen. Dieses sowie die Finalläufe stehen jetzt noch aus, um eine gültige Wertung für die Herren in der Disziplin Wave zu erzielen.
Erfolgreicher lief es für die Damen. Hier konnte sich in den schwierigen Bedingungen mit leichtem Wind aber hohem Shorebreak und starker Strömung Nadia Jablonski (GER-221) durchsetzen. Dahinter folgte Emma Miron (GER-508) vor ihrer Schwester Frieda Miron (GER-129).
Bei den Herren standen sich im ersten Halbfinale die Kieler Mats von Holten (GER-2019), Leo Richter (GER-9) und Justus Schott (GER-29) sowie der Sylter Local Irfan Celikay (TUR-172) gegenüber. Da Sprünge bei dem schwachen, auflandigen Wind schwierig waren, konnten sich von Holten und Richter vor allem über die besser ausführbaren Wellenritte in Szene setzen und qualifizierten sich so für das Finale.
Im zweiten Halbfinale standen sich Philip Richter (GER-441), Anton Richter (GER-6), Oliver Schott (GER-26) und Alexander Neubert (GER-294) gegenüber. Es gab zwei Startversuche, nach denen der Wind beide Male unter das Limit fiel, sodass die Wave Elimination bei der GWA Championship 2024 an dieser Stelle ins Stocken kam. Es stehen mit dem Halbfinale und dem Finale noch zwei Heats aus, um ein gültiges Ergebnis zu erzielen.
Für den morgigen Donnerstag sieht es wieder nach Wind für den California Windsurf Cup auf Sylt aus. Allerdings sollten bei 12 Knoten, die später auf 15 bis 18 Knoten zunehmen, die Foiler und später auch die Fin Slalom Fahrer zum Zuge kommen. Der sideshore Wind aus südlicher Richtung könnte dabei optimale Rahmenbedingungen für die Athleten und auch die Zuschauer bieten. Das Skipper Meeting ist für 10:30 Uhr und der erste mögliche Start für 11:30 Uhr geplant.

Florian Jung siegt beim California Windsurf Cup St. Peter-Ording.
Die IFCA Slalom Foil World Championship 2024 war nicht das einzige sportliche Highlight des California Windsurf Cups St. Peter-Ording am vergangenen Wochenende. Aufgrund der starken Windvorhersage wurde für den Finaltag „Wave Alarm“ gegeben. 21 der besten Waver Deutschlands folgten dem Ruf und machten sich auf den Weg an den Nordseestrand, um erstmals in der Saison 2024 einen offiziellen Wave Contest für den California Windsurf Cup auszutragen. Am Contesttag stellten sich die Bedingungen dann leider doch schwächer als ursprünglich angekündigt dar. Bei fünf bis sechs Windstärken konnte aber trotzdem eine komplette Wave Elimination ausgetragen werden. Im Finale konnte sich Florian Jung (GER-213, Starboard, Gun Sails) aus Saarbrücken vor Anton Richter (GER-6, JP, Neil Pryde) und Henri Kohlberg (GER-45, Naish) durchsetzen.
Die französische Wetsuit Marke Soöruz war kurzfristig als Sponsor des Wave-Alarms St. Peter-Ording eingestiegen. So war die Teilnahme am California Windsurf Cup in SPO für alle Waverider kostenlos. Trotz der kurzen Vorwarnzeit von nur 24 Stunden fand sich so ein ausgezeichnetes Teilnehmerfeld mit 21 der besten deutschen Waver in St. Peter-Ording ein. Das Starterfeld überzeugte aber nicht nur von der Anzahl der Waverider, sondern auch qualitativ. Gleich mehrere Worldcupper bereicherten das Waveriding beim California Windsurf Cup St. Peter-Ording.
Der Saarländer Florian Jung stand im Finale den World Cuppern Nick Spangenberg (GER-141, JP, Gun Sails), Anton Richter und Henri Kohlberg gegenüber. Mit besseren Sprüngen und Wellenritten konnte Florian Jung die Wave Elimination gewinnen. Auf dem zweiten Platz folgte der letztjährige Gewinner des California Windsurf Cups in der Disziplin Wave, Anton Richter. Henri Kohlberg belegte Platz drei und konnte damit Nick Spangenberg auf den vierten Platz verdrängen.
Bei den Damen siegte Emma Miron (GER-509, Sailloft) vor ihrer Schwester Frida Miron (GER-129, Sailloft). Nadja Jablonski (GER-221, Sailloft) folgte auf Platz drei. In der Youth U21 Kategorie dominierte Anton Richter mit seinem zweiten Platz in der Gesamtwertung. Er setzt sich damit vor seinen älteren Bruder Leo Richter (GER-9, JP, Neilpryde). Den dritten Platz in der Youth U21 Wertung teilen sich Erik Wehkamp (GER-240, Duotone) und Hannes Gobisch (GER-801, Duotone).
„Wir freuen uns, dass der erste Wave Alarm des Jahres 2024 erfolgreich war. Es ist wichtig, Waveriding als Contestdisziplin zu pflegen. Es gibt nur maximal zwei oder drei Möglichkeiten im Jahr, um Wave Alarm zu geben. Deshalb wollten wir diese Chance nicht ungenutzt lassen. Das positive Feedback und die erfolgreiche Wave Elimination bestätigen uns in unseren Bemühungen“, sagt Matthias Regber von der Choppy Water GmbH, die den California Windsurf Cup organisiert.

Die französische Wetsuit Marke Soöruz war kurzfristig als Sponsor des Wave-Alarms St. Peter-Ording eingestiegen. So war die Teilnahme am California Windsurf Cup in SPO für alle Waverider kostenlos. Trotz der kurzen Vorwarnzeit von nur 24 Stunden fand sich so ein ausgezeichnetes Teilnehmerfeld mit 21 der besten deutschen Waver in St. Peter-Ording ein. Das Starterfeld überzeugte aber nicht nur von der Anzahl der Waverider, sondern auch qualitativ. Gleich mehrere Worldcupper bereicherten das Waveriding beim California Windsurf Cup St. Peter-Ording.
Der Saarländer Florian Jung stand im Finale den World Cuppern Nick Spangenberg (GER-141, JP, Gun Sails), Anton Richter und Henri Kohlberg gegenüber. Mit besseren Sprüngen und Wellenritten konnte Florian Jung die Wave Elimination gewinnen. Auf dem zweiten Platz folgte der letztjährige Gewinner des California Windsurf Cups in der Disziplin Wave, Anton Richter. Henri Kohlberg belegte Platz drei und konnte damit Nick Spangenberg auf den vierten Platz verdrängen.
Bei den Damen siegte Emma Miron (GER-509, Sailloft) vor ihrer Schwester Frida Miron (GER-129, Sailloft). Nadja Jablonski (GER-221, Sailloft) folgte auf Platz drei. In der Youth U21 Kategorie dominierte Anton Richter mit seinem zweiten Platz in der Gesamtwertung. Er setzt sich damit vor seinen älteren Bruder Leo Richter (GER-9, JP, Neilpryde). Den dritten Platz in der Youth U21 Wertung teilen sich Erik Wehkamp (GER-240, Duotone) und Hannes Gobisch (GER-801, Duotone).
„Wir freuen uns, dass der erste Wave Alarm des Jahres 2024 erfolgreich war. Es ist wichtig, Waveriding als Contestdisziplin zu pflegen. Es gibt nur maximal zwei oder drei Möglichkeiten im Jahr, um Wave Alarm zu geben. Deshalb wollten wir diese Chance nicht ungenutzt lassen. Das positive Feedback und die erfolgreiche Wave Elimination bestätigen uns in unseren Bemühungen“, sagt Matthias Regber von der Choppy Water GmbH, die den California Windsurf Cup organisiert.

Amado Vrieswijk gewinnt Foil Weltmeisterschaft bei California Windsurf Cup St. Peter-Ording.
Vom 11. bis zum 14. Juli fand in St. Peter Ording die IFCA Slalom Foil World Championship 2024 statt. Fast 40 Athleten aus sieben Nationen kämpften bei der wichtigsten Slalom Foil Veranstaltung der International Funboard Class Association um den offiziellen Weltmeistertitel. Innerhalb von drei Wettkampftagen konnten sechs komplette Slalom Eliminationen gefahren werden. Mit einer überlegenen Performance sicherte sich der aus Bonaire stammende Amado Vrieswijk (NED-2020, Future Fly, Severne) den Titel vor dem Franzosen Alexis Mathis (FRA- 997, Tabou, GA Sails) und dem Deutschen Michele Becker (GER-277, Patrik Windsurfing). Als Teil des California Windsurf Cups bot die Veranstaltung nicht nur hochklassigen Sport auf dem Wasser, sondern auch ein Eventvillage mit vielfältigem Rahmenprogramm, insbesondere für Familien.

Ein großer Dank geht aber auch an die Teilnehmer aus aller Welt und die Tourismus-Zentrale St. Peter-Ording, ohne die es nicht möglich gewesen wäre, eine solche internationale Meisterschaft nach St. Peter-Ording zu holen“, sagt Matthias Regber von der ausrichtenden Choppy Water GmbH.
Amado Vrieswijk konnte vier der sechs Eliminationen gewinnen. Einmal wurde er Dritter und einmal Vierter. Da aber jeder Fahrer bei sechs Wettfahrten seine beiden schlechtesten Wertungen streichen kann, siegt der Bonairer mit der Idealpunktzahl von 0,0 Punkten und ist so neuer IFCA Slalom Foil World Champion 2024.
Eng gestaltete sich der Kampf um Platz zwei. Nach dem ersten Tag lag hier zunächst Fabian Wolf (GER-404, Starboard, Severne) aussichtsreich im Rennen. Ab dem zweiten Wettkampftag rückten die Verfolger aber immer näher und passierten ihn schließlich. So konzentrierte sich der Kampf um den Vize-Weltmeistertitel am Ende auf das Duell zwischen dem Franzosen Alexis Mathis und Michele Becker. Nach einem etwas schwächeren Einstieg in die Regatta steigerte sich der Franzose im Laufe der Wettkampftage immer weiter. Am letzten Tag wurde er in allen Rennen Zweiter hinter dem Weltmeister Amado Vrieswijk. Becker zeigte sich mit Ausnahme eines Ausrutschers in Wettfahrt zwei, den er streichen konnte, durchgängig stark. Am Ende lagen Becker und Mathis punktgleich mit 7,0 Punkten Kopf an Kopf. Erst im Tiebreak konnte sich der Franzose Mathis durchsetzen und wurde so IFCA Slalom Foil Vizeweltmeister 2024. Michele Becker sichert sich punktgleich den dritten Platz auf dem Podium.
Fabian Wolf hat eine starke Weltmeisterschaft gesurft. Auch wenn er im Verlauf aus dem unmittelbaren Titelkampf ausschied und am Ende knapp das Podium verpasste, zeigte er mit 12,0 Punkten eine konstant starke Leistung. Der ansonsten in der olympischen iQFOiL Klasse surfende Wolf beendete die Weltmeisterschaft damit als zweitbester Deutscher auf Platz vier des Gesamtklassements. Der dänische Youngster Noah Vinther (DEN-7777, Patrik Windsurfing) komplettierte die Top-5 mit 18,0 Punkten.
Noah Vinther wurde zum neuen IFCA Slalom Foil Youth Champion 2024. Der Däne siegte mit seinem fünften Platz in der Gesamtwertung in der Youth U21 Division vor dem Franzosen Sacha Fortune (FRA-655, FMX Racing, Challenger) auf Platz acht und Meno Büchler (GER-91, Starboard, Severne) aus Deutschland, der die WM auf Platz zehn beendete.
Der sechzehnjährige Paul Regber (GER-17, Starboard, Severne) kann sich über seinen ersten Titelgewinn bei einer Weltmeisterschaft freuen. Er ist der IFCA Slalom Foil Junior Champion 2024. In der Junior U17 Kategorie konnte er sich bei der Weltmeisterschaft auf der Nordsee vor St. Peter-Ording gegen Philip Köhlert (GER-2009, Starboard, Severne) und Mika Henning (GER-64, Duotone) durchsetzen.
Der Däne Thomas Sehested (DEN-68, Patrik, Point-7) siegte in der Master Ü40 Wertung vor Gunnar Asmussen (GER-2, Starboard, Severne) aus Deutschland, während sich der Pole Pawel Dittrich (POL-381, Starboard, Severne) in der Grand Master Ü50 Division gegen die beiden Deutschen Bernd Timme (GER-1961, Starboard, Severne) und Michael Brozio (GER-27, Duotone) durchsetzen konnte.

Leider brachte der Wind auch viel Regen mit sich. Dies beeinträchtigte das Eventvillage und das Rahmenprogramm. Eine der Eventpartys fiel sogar dem Dauerregen zum Opfer. Aber sobald sich der Himmel wieder aufhellte, entfaltete St. Peter-Ording seine Magie. Tausende von Besuchern strömten auf den Nordseestrand und genossen das einmalige Ambiente einer hochkarätigen Sportveranstaltung mitten im Nationalpark Wattenmeer.
Der Termin für den California Windsurf Cup 2025 steht bereits fest: Im kommenden Jahr werden die Windsurfer vom 17. bis zum 20. Juli 2024 wieder nach St. Peter-Ording zurückkehren.
