Thermal drive
The valley wind lives off the sun: it heats the valley and the pressure difference Munich→Innsbruck draws the air up-valley. Both high = strong afternoon valley wind.
Höhenwind 850 hPa (Stärke + Richtung)
Der Höhenwind in ~1,5 km (850 hPa) kann die Thermik stützen oder überdecken – entscheidend ist die RICHTUNG (rechte Kompass-Achse): Nord stützt den Talwind, Süd (Föhnlage) blockiert ihn.
Luftschichtung Tal↔Höhe
Die Schichtung Tal↔Höhe zeigt, ob warme Luft aufsteigen kann: negativ/klein = labil (gut), groß = stabiler Deckel (dämpft die Thermik).
Foehn
A foehn pressure gradient Bolzano−Innsbruck brings downslope wind over the Kesselberg into the Walchensee valley. At the Walchensee it is only a supporting act, though: the wind chance rises noticeably only above about +5 hPa (dashed line). Around or below the zero line (blue) means a northerly regime, no foehn. Other foehn charts reduce pressure to sea level differently and read several hPa higher – the threshold applies to this scale only.
