Wind systems at this spot
In St. Heinrich, the wind almost always blows with a westerly weather pattern. Due to the lake’s north-south orientation, it usually blows from the northwest on the eastern shore, and less frequently from the west or north. An easterly wind here is offshore and almost never brings wind: During Föhn conditions, our measurements showed no southerly wind.
Summer high-pressure systems often bring north to northeast winds, which are amplified by thermal effects starting around noon. The wind is only noticeable several hundred meters west of the webcam/weather station. Due to the weather station’s location on the shore, in the lee of the tall trees and hills to the northeast, our model cannot adequately represent this wind.
The above description always refers to the specific measuring station and the model calculated from the measurement data and should not be interpreted as a general, standard spot guide for the lake.

Upper wind west/east
Calculated and shown is the wind at about 1.5 km altitude (850 hPa) above the lake: upwards the share from the west, downwards the share from the east, plus the direction (right axis).
At Lake Starnberg the wind almost always comes with a westerly weather pattern. Because the lake runs from north to south, it mostly blows from the northwest at the east shore at St. Heinrich. The stronger the west wind aloft, the more often it reaches the lake: from about 30 knots in every fourth to fifth hour between 8 am and 7 pm, below 20 knots hardly ever.
East wind is offshore at St. Heinrich and almost never brought wind in our measurements.
