Details: the drivers behind the forecast All On Sea
This page shows the main drivers of the wind system on the lake as a forecast for the next 4 days. How the forecast works
The dashed line is a limit from our measurements: once the west wind aloft reaches the line, there is usually wind on the lake as well.

Wind systems at this spot
At Schladitzer Lake, only westerly winds work well. West, southwest, and northwest winds blow toward the shore or at an angle across the open water at the Cam. East winds come over the forest, blow offshore, and barely reach the Cam. If an easterly wind is forecast, Schladitzer Lake isn’t the right spot. Thermal winds don’t generate any wind here.
The drivers
Upper wind west/east
Calculated and shown is the wind at about 1.5 km altitude (850 hPa) above the lake: upwards the share from the west, downwards the share from the east, plus the direction (right axis).
At Lake Schladitz the wind almost always comes with a westerly weather pattern from west, southwest or northwest. Thermal wind plays no role here. With less than 10 knots there was rarely any wind.
East wind reaches the webcam over the forest and is offshore. In our measurements an easterly pattern brought wind on only a few days.
