Wind systems at this spot
At Herrsching almost every wind day comes with a west wind from west to southwest. Herrsching lies on the east shore, so the west wind blows in across the whole lake. East wind comes from the land at Herrsching and is offshore. With east wind, Eching at the north end is the best spot on the Ammersee. Foehn only very rarely gets through to the Ammersee. Thermals bring no wind here.

Shown is the wind at about 1.5 km altitude (850 hPa) above the lake: upwards the share from the west, downwards the share from the east, plus the direction (right axis).
On the Ammersee the wind comes almost only with a westerly weather pattern. Herrsching lies on the east shore, the west wind blows in across the whole lake. In our measurements at Herrsching there was hardly a wind day below 15 knots of west wind aloft, from 25 knots on a good half of the days and from 40 knots on almost nine out of ten days.
East wind comes from the land at Herrsching and is offshore. With east wind, Eching at the north end is the best spot on the Ammersee.
