However, the wind remained much lighter, although during the morning at least there was enough wind for the competitors to be called to the committee boat. Unfortunately though only Heat 1 of the Men’s opening elimination could be started and even that was cancelled shortly after it began.
Despite remaining on hold until 14:30, the sailors were released with the wind never threatening to return.
World Title Implications
With only two days left of the event holding period, the pressure on the world title race contenders is slowly increasing as with fewer races being completed there’s even less room for error. Any mistake or equipment failure could now have devastating consequences, or present unexpected opportunities, depending how you look at it and it really will come down to who can hold their nerve the most.
The good news is that from tomorrow the wind is expected to turn back to the northeast with 13-17 knots currently being predicted during the morning. The only thing is that there is some cloud on the forecast while temperatures remain slightly above average for the time of year, so we will just have to wait and see what happens.
The sailors will meet again at 8am (GMT+9) on Tuesday morning with the racing commencing from 08:30 onwards.
